Cool and interesting survey! I promise you (you guys), (you all), (y'all) that I was born and raised in Northern Kentucky, but strangely my results were: Most Similar Oklahoma City, OK Irving, TX Garland, TX Least Similar Providence, RI Minneapolis/Saint Paul, MN Salt Lake City, UT I went with knee jerk responses such as "you guys" because that's how I said it while growing up, but have noticed that over the years it has morphed sometimes into "y'all". There's other various ways I've said things in the past that have altered over the years depending on my associations and repetitively saying things a new and different way for kicks until it sticks. One example is "lightening bug", and I've said it that way my whole life. Typically, in books it's "firefly", so my knee jerk way would be "lightening bug", but little by little I might say "firefly" just for kicks and after a while something like that will stick. I've always called big roads where you drive relatively fast a "Highway", but something like I-75 I've called it "The Expressway". For my answer I went with "Highway". I was raised saying "aunt" sounding like the bug, and still knee-jerkingly do, but now have become self-conscious saying it that way, and think the way black folks and the British say it sounds a bit classier, but when I say it that way I feel pretentious. I also feel pretentious saying car-a-mel instead of carmel, but I give it a whirl sometimes. The older I get I really don't know how I talk anymore because I'm constantly mixing it up just to do things differently than the way I was raised and it all just turns into a mixed bag, but ultimately the way I was raised wins out because that's the way it feels a bit more natural coming out of my mouth.
