I like both decisions. I didn't like Saban going for it on 4th down up by 7 with about 5 minutes left in game and came up short.

It was a different kicker...

 

The kicker at the end of the game was a REDSHIRT freshman. He had kicked in previous games and was one of three before todays game.

Didn't have a problem with either decision.

I had no problem with the Michigan decision to go for 2. As a heavy underdog, they had a qb hobbling around trying to finish the game on a sprained ankle - their fg kicker was out for the game and the replacement (punter) had squeaked thru a couple of extra points and missed badly on a short field goal attempt that was blown dead. You have a 50/50 chance or better of upsetting an undefeated team if you execute one 3 yard play. Good decision, poor play call/execution imo.

 

Bama game - Didn't really have a problem with the long attempt at the end. I thought the bigger decision blunder was passing up the 30-35 yard fg attempt late in the game that would've given them a 10 pt lead and pretty much sealed the deal. Went for it on fourth down instead and got stuffed. Felt bad for the 0-3 Bama kicker.....

Nine offensive Linemen a kicker and a holder trying to run down a punt returner, not really the right tool for the job.

 

It is not 9 offensive linemen. Teams use athletic LBs and TEs and others on the edges to handle the speed guys on the defense rushing.

It was Bama without a doubt. The rule is, is you have the better team, go play OT. Kicking the FG is something a desperate team does that can't measure up (like UM in the OSU game).

How many HS kickers can kick a 50+ yard FG.

Maybe Saban was a little too arrogant for his own good Saturday. Who knows. If I'm the coach, I take a knee and win in OT.

Alabama's was way way way worse. This blunder likely cost them a shot in the title game.

 

And the blunder isn't the kick. The blunder was not having the team prepared to tackle a guy 109 yards away from his end zone in case the kick was short.

So you put your kick coverage guys out there to block for the kick? If so I think they get ran over by Auburn. Alabama was defending against a blocked kick that could have been returned by putting the bigguns' out there, it's hard to MAX Protect and Kick Cover both on the same play.

 

It didn't look like Alabama even knew the guy could return the FG if it was short. And why do you need Max Protect against 10 people rushing instead of 11? Bama didn't even realize the kick was short until Chris Davis was at the 10 yard line. They weren't prepared to stop Davis or anyone who was back to get the kick. It's not like Auburn didn't rush the kick so they could set up a wedge for Davis. Bama wasn't ready for that play. And that's Saban's fault. Hell, he didn't even know what was going on. :lol: :lol:

They were likely thrown off by the Auburn defender who was dancing in the middle of the field

I have no issue with Michigan going for it. I think they could have called a better play. Some type of run/ pass option for the QB.

 

Now the Bama call was awful. That guy had missed 3 previous. It would be different if he was perfect. On top on it he was short by 10 yards on that kick. Saban needs his head examined.

Neither was worse imo. A coach knows his team better than anyone else and no disrespect intended but certainly better than anyone on here. Saban and Hoke are both very good coaches who's records speak for themselves. Had the coach not thought that his decision was the best one for his team then he wouldn't had called what he did.

I also don't believe that people overall are giving Auburn or Ohio State any, or enough credit for what they did. Both were on the road in the most hostile environment they could be in, both Auburn and OSU had potential BCS NC game possibilities on the line.

I am not putting any one person's opinion down but just think that too many aren't giving the winner credit for making the plays they had to have. Both OSU and Auburn and their players, coaches Won their game and not bc Michigan / Alabama just blew it. Both were beaten by a better football team "On That Day".they made the plays, Bama didn't and that's what matters. I certainly feel that Bama is a better football team than Auburn but they weren't on Saturday. Ohio State has been much better than Michigan all season, Michigan took it to them and at the end Ohio State made the play/plays they had to make, Michigan didn't.

Ambivalent about both unless what Brady Hoke did was true in taking a straw poll of his seniors to go for the two point conversion. That would be the dumbest moment between both.
