I'm just glad the state championship is going to a public school... I think diversity is good for the state. Hopefully this will encourage more kids to stick to the public school route instead of feeling like they have to go to Trinity to win a state championship.

If you look at past scores SK's D was never its strength. Tonight they were a team with no identity IMO. They could do whatever they wanted on one series of offense then the next series it looked like they literally didn't know what they wanted to do on offense. I'm never one to be critical of the coaches but this team just didn't play right, not sure if it was game preparation or in game execution as far as play calling but they were just off. This is the kind of loss that could've really helped them had it come mid season.

Just remember.......coaches are great when getting wins, but goats when their team loses. Nature of the job. Coaching is tough. Very tough. Conversely, hindsight is easy, very easy.

A truer statment has never been said! I will also add that every coach out there would rather taket he bullets and the knives being thrown than to have one of the kids blamed. So I'm sure SK's coaches welcome any criticism by SK fans rather than see the young men become targets after such a great season that ended 2 games short of their goal.

Spot on HB. Any coach worth his salt always takes the bullets. Part of the job.

Someone stated in the prediction thread that Butler was too fast for SK on defense and SK wouldn't be able to have the success they were used to with Kuntz running around as much as he has been. It sounds like they nailed that on the head. Without SK being as succesful passing it sounds like Butler just wore them down in the end. To hear that Collins is better than Butler only tells me that SK would of had trouble no matter who they played heading into the regionals. Hats off to SK and best of luck to Kuntz after a great HS career. 6A title this year is anybody's guess' date=' I'm sticking with Male I believe.[/quote']

 

Problem really wasn't that SK couldn't pass it was more the play calling. Crossing routes were almost always open. Deep ball wasn't there. Honestly Kuntz sailed a few pass and part if that may have been the wind. But his arm just wasn't what it's been all year. Mom listened to it in the radio and that was the first thing she asked me about.

 

The boys had a great year and they gave Independence something to be proud of. They should be proud, the programs come a long ways over the past 20 years and they've had some very dedicated people help make that happen.

I completely agree. I don't think it was really any one thing that cost SK the game with the exception of the outside run. That speed hurt them, if they want to get better they need to remember how much that speed hurt them. When they do agilities workouts they need that game to burn in their mind. Bc not being able to move laterally really hurt SK tonight. I guess if anything speed really was what hurt SK tonight. Need more of it.

 

They had a great offensive system a pretty good D but they just didn't have the playmaking ability that you have to have deep in the playoffs. But I will give them this for 12 games they found a way to make the most out of what they did have and that's more than a lot of schools can say, regardless of the schedule.

I want to be clear I'm not throwing the blame solely on the coaches. I wouldn't be surprised if there were underlying factors(injuries/illness Coach Marksberry is a close to the vest kinda guy)that played a part in how/why tonight's game played like it did. I'm simply saying SK couldn't get a rhythm even when they had one going. It was honestly weird to watch. Hard to explain really.

 

Believe me I'm not drinking any of UKFANS Koolaid. Tonight's game SK just looked a lot more like week 1 or 2 SK than mid-late season team we had seen.

Do you think the Sk coaches and players took Butler lightly because they only beat Campbell by 7? Butler is a big play offense but I really didn't see them putting up 29 on Sk. Campbell held them to 137 total yards and 89 of those came on one play and 3 turnovers by their offense. I had a feeling Sk would struggle on Offense. They have not played a team yet this year that can man you up on the outside and load the box to stop the run. Butler is a very good and physical team and I wish them luck. Hope they win it.
