Anyone "neutral" planning to go to game because it's a must see rivalry?

 

A guy in this thread is talking about driving 4 hours to see the game....so yes.

History and scores are not the be all and end all in the making of a rivalry. There are elements that go beyond any simple collection of numbers. I guarantee you the rivalry exists for the players, as it does for those who are most closely tied to either school.

 

Yes Virginia, there is a rivalry...it's alive and well, right here in NKY. There are a multitude of reasons why individual games have become legendary. And those reasons have nothing to do with either team's record, or who won the other game that year -- or if there even was one.

 

The rivalry has taken on a life of its own and shows no sign of fading away anytime soon. Those who have lived the history, those who know it best, will tell you that anything can and does happen in these games. Friday night, another chapter in this long story will be written. Get yourself a ticket and see if it's a blowout...a flood bowl...an amazing comeback...or a miraculous overtime victory!

I just answered your question on what the difference is. Whether it would have an effect on the outcome, guess we'll never know.

 

I don't know about your assessment of the Cov Cath crew. It's not like they haven't been successful in the past and their only goal is to beat HHS. I would find it hard to believe that any Cov Cath player or fan would not make winning state their ultimate goal. If HHS was not in thier division, we could be talking about Cov Cath's dynasty. I hate to say it and no disrespect to other teams around the state, but they have typically been one of the only fairly consistent potential roadblock for years.

 

Again, I can tell you didn't play for either team. Say what you'd like from the outside, but it's still a bitter rivalry. If you doubt that al all, ask the HHS kids and coaches if they still think it's a rivalry. I know what the answer would be.

 

The Bengals were horrible for years, but still have a rivalry with Pittsburgh. Rivalries are not always in the results.

 

 

To be fair to Big sale.....Cincinnati Bengal fans think there is a great rivalry with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but for Steelers fans lately they consider the Ravens a MUCH MUCH bigger rival.

 

Good luck to both teams. I can't see the Bluebirds losing this one or any other this year. Same old song in dance in Kentucky football.

Rivalrys are exactly about the results. The Steelers rivalry only got going recently when Bengals got more competitive and were actually able to beat Steelers. Browns used to be Bengals' biggest rival - but Browns' being mostly terrible over the last 15 years killed that.

 

People with no vested interest talk on here about going to see Moeller/Colerain because it will be a good game, a must see rivalry. Also talk of finding a bigger venue. I don't see anything like that happening between HHS/CCH. Anyone "neutral" planning to go to game because it's a must see rivalry?

 

I am with you. Our definition of rivalry is different than others. Some people see Kentucky and Tennessee as a footballrvalry. If it is merely about two teams within close geographic proximity and in the same league, then yes. If the fans don't like each other, than yes. If we are talking about going into the game and knowing that both teams ate on the same level annually, then No. We didn't have a rivalry w Beechwood. We beat them once in eleven years. Now there is a legit rivalry. To each their own on this, but I agree with you.

I know it sounds good and it does draw a good crowd, but I can't tell you the last time Highlands vs. Cov. Cath sold out.

 

It wasn't too long ago because my daughter and I watched from outside the gate! Maybe 2 playoff years ago. I know it was when the youngest maile boy (the lineman) was a senior because I hung with his mom and dad in the end zone.

I think CCH vs HHS is intriguing and I can see how some would call it a good rivalry, but the truth is although it may be considered a good rivalry by some mainly because many see those 2 teams as the best 2 teams in that class in the entire state most years, but unfortunatley for CCH Highlands is so much better it doesn't even make it an interesting game after the 1st qtr.

 

I'd love to see them become more competitive but the reality is it won't happen anytime soon.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "soon." How in the world people can say "reality is..." type statements like they know the future is set in stone, absolutely kills me.

If we were all Cov Cath fans trying to convince you this is a huge rivalry game, I would understand. But all these people telling you this is a rivalry game are HHS fans. We are the ones that have dominated the games recently and we still consider it a rivalry! What do we have to gain by telling you this is a rivalry game...if it actually isn't.

 

And whats really funny, the ones arguing that its not, have never been a part of this game.

That is a pretty good reason to respect the rivalry, regardless of one-sidedness, wouldn't you agree?

I think of it as a rivalry myself, but only because they are the 2 main teams in that class each year and the proximity of eachother.

 

If you are on BGP and you read the threads about eacho team you know it's a rivalry lol.

But that is a good point Clyde. I went to Beechwood and growing up always thought CCH and Beechwood was a huge rivalry even though they played in different classes.

I don't think it is a rivalry at all. Everyone just stay home and catch the score on the preps. It's just one NKY team playing another NKY team. Nothing to see here folks.:sneaky:

"Reality is" Highlands has a system in place. From feeder programs, to the coaching staff, to community support, to their style of play, it's a system - a plan - that's sustainable and flexible depending on the available talent.

 

You either have to beat them at their own system our come up with a better one.

Highlands is basically like Alabama. Throughout the entire season, fans, sports writers, TV analysts and opposing players gradually grow to think that a team from another conference can outduel the SEC’s best come bowl time. Then, the Tide deliver the truth and it hits everyone like a ton of bricks.
