What he says about adults is fine with me. When he heaps unfiltered blame on kids, I find it distateful in the extreme. I'd call out one of my fellow Trinity supporters the same way, likely faster. All of us that feel real passion for our teams need to remember that these are kids.

 

So he shouldn't say that a kid needs to play better because he is a kid? I've never seen him bash a kid. I have seen him criticize the play of a kid. That's off limits now?

You assess kids without mercy. You assess coaches without mercy. You bully kids from the anonimity of a screen name. You really expect anyone to cut you any slack? All season you professed to have all the answers for what was needed in Tigertown. At the end of the season your prognostications were flat wrong.

 

I haven't bullied anyone, and if you've been following my posts at all you would know nearly everyone in tiger land knows exactly who I am.

He lost with a team that most top flight HS coaches (and that's what X ought to have) would have gone at worst 8-2 with what they had this year.

Total disaster. Hiring dads and parapro's left and right. Totally forgot that you might want to add some experienced HS coaches to your staff. Fueled a lot of optimistic talk amongst the X Nation with no idea of how to back all of that up.

Bob Beatty's first year he beat St. X and took Trinity to a championship game. They lost but he didn't underachieve with the talent he had that year.

 

Wolford inherited a wealth of talent and underperformed with it. I think that many of the mistakes that we saw on the field this year were a direct result of his inexperience as a head coach. That being said he could end up a great coach in the long run, but this year us so poignant because of the talent this team had. I am probably not alone in thinking that Glaser would have done better with this group

Bluegrass, I feel bad for him too. But I honestly feel worse for the kid that played backup QB this year because he paid his dues and was in line to be the starter and then new coach, new QB (with his named dad on staff). That had to be hard for the whole team and likely was reflected in their games (at least early on).

 

As PP92 said, run the ball. Walker was overall the best back I saw this year. And I watched Colerain, T, McCallie, Blackman and BG. Not the whole state obviously but those are good team and he was the best I saw.

 

The thing I think Wolford did the worst job with was trying to force a style of play on offense with an very good team that was built to run another style and it obviously cost him some games.

Maybe he could / should be a little less critical of kids but I'll leave that for others to decide. What I've seen from his posts are a guy who shows a passion & pride for his school & one who, as far as I've seen, always acknowledges when he's wrong & never disappears from the board when that happens, & generally does so w/ respect. I give Coach Wolford a C-. There were bright spots and also dumb moments. I can't say that much that was good came directly from Wolford. He held this team back in many ways. His decision making on the sideline clearly wasn't up to par of a good coach. Multiple times timeouts were used in the worst possible situations. He was thrown into the fire with heavy expectations, but he put that on himself!! He along with a couple of other influential alumni made this happen. They kicked Glaser out and moved Wolford in. He never quite understood what he was getting into and that's a shame. This was a team that needed to be tough and have a tough leader. Anyone who witnessed a practice this season, it was some of the softest coaching we've seen ever on Poplar Level Road. Kids need a leader who is going to be intense so that they act intense. His laid back mentality would work well in college or the NFL, but you have to bring the energy so that it rubs off on the players you are trying to motivate. They look up to him as this successful player and one who has accomplished their dreams, so show them the hardwork it took to get there!

 

The scariest part is the good moments were created by having just superior athleticsm in the senior class. Their are a few good high school players that will remain on the team most noteably Noah Houk, the expected starter next year. It will be very telling of how good of a coach he is when he doesn't have Charles Walker and he doesn't have 6'4 280 averaged across his offensive line. That's when you will really see that he isn't fit for this job.

I expressed concern about this hire from day one. It could still turn out brilliant....BUT, there's more bad than good that can come out. Will is in the HOF and was on the Board.....what, just what if, he's a bust? (09/12/13)

I had a conversation with a Bowling Green coach about month and we were talking about the X/BG game. He said he didn't know Coach Wolford and was expecting an energetic new coach, but instead Coach Wolford came off to him as an old grandfather type figure.

 

I understand a new head coach wants to bring in his own guys, but I would be willing to bet that Coach Wolford would say one of his mistakes was how he assembled his coaching staff.

 

Unfortunately this years team was the ginny pig for Coach Wolford, but I hope he and the staff learn from this and can get some positive momentum going on Poplar Level Rd.

True, but this senior class was special. The cubbard is not bare mind you, but you don't just bring in the second string to Charles Walker and expect the same results (O-line too).

I too noticed from day one the lack of intensity and discipline at the practices and off-season gatherings. I had a conversation with Shaheen's father about this, in comparison to Glaser's squads.

I think all the Seniors would like to have this year back with good old Mike at the helm. I truly believe they would still be playing at a minimum. No telling what else.
