Michigan State 78 Kentucky 74

Nikeman only off by 3 point in the prediction thread. Those guys in Vegas aren't bad at what they do.

Cats will be fine, great effort down the stretch and now the 40-0 pressure is over. Guard play needs to step up on both ends.

Good effort in the second half, can't be mad with the fight they showed there. Crazy they were even in the game as many mistakes and missed free throws as they had. Sky's going to be the limit come March.

Thing that sealed their fate IMO was after the Appling three and Harrison throws the ball away leading to a lay in to put them up five. If Kentucky brings the ball up the floor down three and manages to get a bucket and weather the storm it may have been a different outcome. They had just tied it and got the momentum, but it was quickly zapped after that turnover.

Polson is going to get cleanup minutes, I like Polson but this isn't

last years team.

Hey, congrats to MSU fought off the come back effort by our Cats. TO's are something to expect from a freshmen ridden team, but the free throws man... That's a tough pill to swallow. The Cats hit half of those and we might be talking about a different result. I'm proud of the come back effort but the play that sticks out to me is the the three by Appling, and then the TO by Harrison. Plays like that are null though if we hit free throws.

To me, Cal coached his butt off in the second half put his team in a position to win, and it just fell short tonight. I love this team, love the effort, and energy. Like most have mentioned just have to clean a few things up! Hats off to MSU, see you in March!

I will say this, Billas talking about UK not forcing MSU to play their set screens really stuck out to me bc it's such an easy correction that it almost made me smile.

He doesn't need to score he needs to not give the ball away like the Harrison's did tonight.

I know one thing I've never been this anxious/nervous/excited over a game in November.

If you think about it though some of these young Calipari teams have been pulling out tight ones over Miami (oh) and teams like that, so almost stealing one over Sparty makes me feel good about their chances in a couple of months.

A good problem is that a lot of the issues are correctable ones. It is clear this team's success hinges upon the twins' development.

Even with all the fouls it was a very good game. Cal could have fouled to extend the game when MSU had the ball. It was only a 5 second difference.

Was thinking the same. Only thing I can think of is they didn't know who to give the foul to. As long as they can learn from it all then I'm good with it.

The win tonight is less important than getting your key frosh minutes and letting them struggle. Polson simply isn't going to play a lot this year. 3 games in and Hawkins is already getting his minutes.

UK had some flashes of what the can become in the 2nd half' date=' but even then they didn't look all that good. YET. And with that said it was still a game down to the wire against the best team in the country right now. There isn't a guy in the country that can guard Julius Randle man up. Not one. Anywhere...[/quote']

I'd like to add one more thing: Saw some flashes from Poythress tonight where I was like wow. I look for him to be a contributor down the stretch of the season. He should get more looks as it is almost certain Randle will get doubled every night.

Also have to recognize it's the 3rd game and they simply aren't ready. Sometimes you can learn more by watching than trying to play.

Cal talked a lot about taking out players who aren't playing this year. But Polson doesn't come in and Lee has spot moment and not too bad there. I think Cal will never play more than 7 no matter what.

He should have pulled both Harrisons and Young at various times, especially for their transition defense, and put someone in who was willing to get back on defense.
