jughead
Newport was definitely the under dog in this one and came out on top. Newport can play with ANYBODY if they come to play! :flame:

whodey
Brossart has really fallen since losing in the all "A" classic. They better get back there oldgame and buckle up for the post season.
greendevil
This is somewhat surprising too... I consider Newport in the middle of the pack in the ninth, and Brossart a 10th contender... But I do have to say that I think that the talent is there at Newport... they just don't put it together often... Should be an interesting 36th game when Newport/NC meet again... skfan
Hard to believe!!! I probably should have made it a point to see a Newport game this year! :thumb:

NKYBOY1487
I would be willing to call this one the biggest upset of the year, possibly. Definetly one of the biggest.
NHS BIG DADDY
But I do have to say that I think that the talent is there at Newport... they just don't put it together often... Yup, dead on. Talent is definenlty there, but putting it all together has been the problem. So this win does suprise me but then again it doesnt. Old Soda
Yes the Mustangs, Scott and Campbell are all struggling now at the wrong time of the year.
Mustang
Brossart has really fallen since losing in the all "A" classic. They better get back there oldgame and buckle up for the post season.Definitely searching for the on-ramp back onto the road to success. Mustangs ran out to a quick 6-0 lead that soon increased to a 10-3 bulge and had us thinking that it was going to be the JV game all over again, when Newport struck for 7 unanswered to knot the score at 10-all just into the second period. Newport would continue on what would become a 19-6 second period sending the Cats to the locker-room up 11 and the Mustangs seeking answers. We seemed to get back on track in the third period outscoring the home team 12-4, cutting the Cats lead to three at 31-28 and when we took the lead 32-31 with 6:25 left in the match it looked like the Cats had taken their best shot and that all would be well at the Mustang Ranch on this night. Not to be, as Newport fought back battling to the wire where the Mustangs had a chance to take the lead with :13.4 left in the game but missed a pair of free throws. Forced to foul, James Glenn connected on both of his attempts sending the Stangs back to Alexandria on a four-game skid and heading to the Carothers Road Hill (which might be just what the doctor ordered) on Thursday night. LLanes-15, Glenn-11, and Adkins 17 for Newport Cooper-15, Lubbers-12, and Kidney-12 for the Mustangs. Not to panic - the 2000 Mustangs that went to Rupp lost 4 of their last 6 regular season games. Hopefully, it won't come to that and we will win out, taking some positive mo into the post-season tournament.
