Football is completely different then any other sport when we talk about risks and when we talk about prep time. There is a reason why you don't play multiple games every week (or day) like some sports do. I for one feel like the football season is way to long. I love football but 15 weeks for a championship team is brutal. Take the top 2 teams from each district and end the playoffs earlier.

Think of it this way, after this Friday over half of the schools playing football will have been eliminated and can get on with basketball. All of the "Haters" need to look at the "glass half full" and be happy that after week one over half the teams will be done and after next Friday 3/4ths of the teams will have been eliminated!

In NKY, the biggest chances for upsets that I see are Bellevue v. Eminence, Scott v. Franklin County, or Newport v. Carroll County.

I think most would agree with this. If you had five classes, using the same playoff format, 72% of the state would make the playoffs. In a four class system, 58% of the teams make the playoffs. In the current method, 87% of the schools make the postseason. I've long advocated that if you're going to allow 87% of the teams in the playoffs, make some adjustments to the season and bracket and put everyone in. Otherwise, drop down to five classes.

I understand that for the Somerset fans this year like HB last this is pretty emotionally charged given Somerset would be sitting home this year much like Cooper would have last.

I differ with VOR on this one. I don't think they should be in nor do I think Boone county should be in.

 

I never once said all teams should be in. I like having regular season games count for something. I just think only allowing 2 teams in is wrong because there are other teams especially in 3 way ties that deserve to be in also. That is why I have no problem with 4 teams and even no problem if they made it only 3 teams.

 

It's the ones that whine saying everyone gets in when in reality they don't that drives me nuts. There are 28 teams that don't make it, not 1 or 2 like some people claim.

I never understood why so many are butt hurt because 4 teams from each district get into the playoffs. What fun is it if only 2 teams get in? No suspense, no underdog stories, just a boring playoff system where the favorite team makes it to the finals and wins every year.

 

I would rather have and follow a story like Cooper last year even if it only happens once in 10 years than to have the same boring teams in the playoffs every year with the same outcomes.

 

People get upset with blowouts but as I've already stated they seem to ignore the fact that there are blowouts in just about every round whtehre there be 4 seeds or 2 seeds getting blown out.

 

The stories are what makes the playoffs so fun. Having a cinderella story like last year more than makes up for anything you all could throw at us if only 2 teams got in.

 

Give me the stories that last a lifetime, that seem like something right out of a hollywood script than just the same olld boring 1 or 2 seed winning a title every year. Why play the game at all if you just want the favorites too advance everytime.

Bardstown is a #3 seed with an 8-2 record, is likely to win on round 1 and I believe has a fair chance to beat Glasgow in round 2 and advance to the region championship.

I wasn't calling you a hater, just feel that everyone clambering for less football either have an agenda or in a few cases are arrogant and look down their noses at the rest of the state.

 

The position of Somerset this year has no bearing on my feelings on this subject...you can look back over the last several seasons at my post and I have always had this exact same position. Over that time Somerset had ZERO District losses so my position had nothing to do with self preservation, just with as much football getting played as possible and settling it on the field like all other sports do.

Your crazy, there are several very good games around the state this week. Yeah there are going to be blow outs, but most of the teams blowing people out this week have also done so all season...did that ruin the season also.

 

If it's that bad...just go to the movies Friday night!
