My feeling on this subject are well known starting with Football having six state championship games while the other major sports Baseball and Basketball only have one but my concern also comes with the question of having teams travel three and four hours for 1st round games and host school either losing money or barely covering expenses for these games.

 

How about this then, make those 3 and 4 seed visitors pay the freight, since most of them bring so few fans to the game!

 

Do you honestly think Boone County will bring enough fans to cover their expenses to travel such a distance? Will Holmes bring enough fans to cover their expenses to Ashland? Will Harrison County bring enough fans or even Boyd or Rowan to cover their expenses? Why should the host schools lose money to play a first round game or just make enough to cover expenses.

 

Should HS sports be about money? No but in this day and age of tight school budgets, sports must pay their own way and if many of these games aren't well attended, why have them?

There are several schools that the boosters have to raise money and pay the school for the buses, or the use of buses is paid out of the stipend the school gives the team...meaning the more bus trips the less money left for equipment and other needs ...several do pay their own freight!

How good is Campbell County? PRP has some athletes, but really struggles to throw the ball. If Campbell Co. is really talented, then they should win. Otherwise, this should be a competitive game.

Screw making the 3 and 4 seeds pay for the freight. That is garbage imo. As far as bringing the leastt amount of fans, that is also crap. Cooper last year in every single playoff game leading up to thee state title game out numbered their opponents fans each and every week, and may I remiind you that they were on the road every single week including trips 4+ hours away.

 

As I said in my last post, if you can't afford to play in the playoffs then get rid of your football team or do some better fundraising.

I don't know. But as I said, if they can't afford it then either have better fundraising or don't play foottball.

I don't think they complain it's just that several teams/boosters have to pick up the bill for busing to away games.

In 6A #1 Seed Tates Creek plays #4 Seed Dunbar. These teams played to a 21-20 game in the regular season.

 

 

As for travel issues. When Bell County has to travel to Elizabethtown in the first round - citing travel as a concern is a non-starter.

I think Dixie will beat Seneca.

For those that support the current playoff situation please explain to me what good will possibly come from Boone County and their 0-10 record making a 4+ hour bus trip to likely get their heads caved in?

That Tates Creek / Dunbar game could be the best #1 vs #4 matchup in the playoffs.

 

Bell co finished 2nd in their district, so E'town has to travel to Bell, but your point is still the same, and valid. Bell will likely have to travel to Central in week 2 and that is a haul too.

You will never be able to avoid lopsided games. Honestly, I don't care how many teams make it, but I have no problem with 4 teams making it from each district. My concern is that some districts only have 4 teams. We play in a 6 team district, so two teams do not make it. If we are going to stick with the 4 team format, then there needs to be more than 4 teams in EACH district. That is the unfair part to me. West Carter and East Carter are the two teams that didn't make it in our district. Either one could have very easily been the 4th seed. To me, they are better than many teams that make it with less than 3 wins. You should have to earn your trip to the playoffs.

So true. If every district had at least five teams then you would have to win at least one game to make the playoffs. That's a better requirement than some teams face, which is basically, "field a team."

If we went to 5 classes there would be no 4 team districts, everyone would have to win at least 1 game to get in and most of the travel issues would be alleviated.
