I tried my best to carry the flag for our side of the argument last year but some on the other side just don't like listening and come off with one line statements to toss back simply because they don't understand what we are talking about. The old lame line "Just in your games" gets old when that is the only thing they can fall back on.

 

There are 3 way ties that happen a lot more than some want to acknowledge and when that happens all 3 teams deserve to get in period. What I never understood is why the same argument by the other side are never heard from when it comes to other high school sports where literally every team gets in.

 

Cooper was that torch bearer last year, there will be another team this year to be that torch bearer and make it to a regional final that many would of rather not let that team in, in the first place.

 

They talk about blowouts yet don't bother admitting there are blowouts in every round, whether it be a 1 vs 4 or a 1 vs 2, there will be blowouts.

 

Let the kids play and those that whine about it, then don't go to the games, you aren't being forced to.

There are quite a few quality teams that are 3 and 4 seeds who should get a chance to play in the postseason just like teams in all the other sports.

 

I think it should be double elmination because if you are a district runner up in volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball you get a second chance and it would only be fair that football teams get a second chance. So why you are carrying the torch for this awful playoff system, please add in double elmination to the argument as well. :jump:

Based upon VOR's (who I normally find him to be a "voice of reason" and agree with almost all of the time) the argument is not based upon the overwhelming majority of games, the argument is based upon the outlier example.

Yet a 48-0 loss at home is ok by you? That is what happened last year to one of your 2 seeds in the opening round.

Simple answer ... I feel every team in every sport should get to play in the post season tournament.

I guess my other question would be...are most people against the 4 teams really concerned about the blowouts or are blowout discussions really a way of saying we feel they should earn their way in?

 

I think we use the blowout games as justification as to why you should earn your way in and filter more teams that don't deserve to be there. Yes there are some 3 seeded teams that occasionally make runs, but there are many more teams that don't. When everyone brings up the exceptions (which occur over multiple years), they tend to forget about all the other games that played out exactly like we knew they would over all those years. It's probably 100:1. In every sport, good teams get eliminated early. Teams that "had a chance" don't advance. Take care of business and you don't have to worry about it!

 

I know for me, it has nothing to do with blowouts. I just truly believe you should earn a berth to the state playoffs. It used to be that way and all the games meant so much more.
