It's pretty telling what the difference in the game was. 22 rushes for 33 yards and throwing the ball 45 times tells me that Elder was controlling the LOS and forcing them to throw the ball. On the flip side, Elder had a much more balanced attack. As far as penalties & turnovers, looks like they were pretty much a wash.

 

That's what HHS does is throw the ball. Highlands running back ran the ball 13 times for 73yds and 2 tds. What you are looking at are sacks by the Elder defense on Houliston. I actually thought the oline for HHS did a good job for the most part against the Elder defensive front. Most of Highlands pass plays are 20-30yds down the field. That puts a ton of pressure on the oline to block for that long. The Elder D front by no means dominated the line of scrimmage.

They have 2 losses too the two top teams in Ohio in St.Eds & Moeller. Elder destroyed Cincy St.X... Elder is a top 10 school in DI in Ohio..

Elder won the game. Why? Ramsey vs. Bluebird DB's was better than Houliston vs. DB's. Highlands found themselves in a lot of 3rd/4th and long situations compared to Elder who appeared to move effortlessly down the field on the shoulders of Ramsey. Obviously the fumble was the difference and the fact that the Bluebirds looked like a deer caught in the headlights during the 1st qtr. Feggins: offensive player of the game. Wrobleski: defensive player of the game.

How is Houlihan feeling this morning?

Make that 3 out of last 4 meetings a GCL squad has knocked the Bluebird qb out of the game.

Saw him talking to some people after JV game and they asked if he was okay and he said he thinks so.

Anyone else think that after the first completed bomb, Ramsey told them it would be better to take a 15yd pass interference call as opposed to a 60yd bluebird gain? Sure looked like it to me.

Sure would've been nice to see Houliston in during the last possession with a minute remaining......

The two offenses were good. Elder gets the edge b/c they had 3 effective options to Highlands 2 and it manifested itself during the game. Ramsey had all day to throw last night...........and he did

Good game. Great atmosphere. Birds were not efficient enough with their possessions but stayed in the game until the end. Defense played very well. Slow starts each half put the Birds on their heels and in "catch up" mode.

 

With respect to the "injuries" by #42 and others for Elder, weak sauce. You always want to give a kid, particularly a HS kid, the benefit of the doubt on any injury. It was VERY suspicious that #42 got "injured" at key points when HHS was getting momentum and wanting to dictate tempo. He also seemed to "recover" very quickly to jog to the sidelines and get back in the game.

 

However, any benefit of the doubt was lost in the 4th Q when there was some confusion on personnel for Elder and #42 was trying to get off the field before HHS snapped the ball. Halfway to the sidelines he dropped to his knees as if to count his rosary beads because he knew he was not going to make it off the field in time. That showed it was obviously a strategy and something he had been coached to do. Coach Ramsey was visibly upset that he had to burn a TO.

 

I don't blame the kid at all. I blame Ramsey. Whether a legal play OR unsportsmanlike conduct is left to the discretion of the officials (who are always going to give the kid the benefit of the doubt rather than call a penalty on someone who could end up actually being hurt). However, you are sending the wrong message to HS students, particularly at a Catholic HS, when you develop a game plan that actively calls on them to lie to a person of authority. Sort of the opposite of the commercial where the kid tells his coach the ball actually went out on him and knows he needs to tell the ref to correct the call.

Definitely worth the $7 last night. Wrobleski has some major giddy up and sacrifices is body in every play. I hope he gets daily concussion testing...wow can he hit.

 

Turnover for TD was obvious difference.Ramsay and Cipriani were connecting all night and the big 3rd down conversions allowed the Panthersto hold the ball longer.

 

Feggins was a stud and was drawing double coverage many times. Drew threw some great balls ans on a couple sacs he held a little long but they run so many deep routes it makes it tough for the OL. I thought Harris needed more touches for ball control la in the game...Jmo. Birds love stretching the field though which makes it fun for the fans. Ryan Green means GO...made some fabulous catches as well.

 

On a sidenote I had my first shot of Pappy Van Winkle at the pre-game party in the parking lot. Goooood stufffff!

 

Hope D-Bob is ok and bounces back and everybody heals up for the playoffs.

I heard that the Elder announcers didnt show much class when Houliston got hurt and made a sarcastic comment when Hoge came in to finish like "Good Luck with that" or something. Did anyone hear it on the internet broadcast?

I heard the comment while listening to the game on 740 AM. I didn't find it insulting -- more along the lines of good luck, because it's going to be a daunting task for new QB to come in and drive Highlands however many yards to tie or win game, which was just stating the obvious. I only listened to end of first half and most of fourth quarter on radio, but heard no Bluebird put-downs by Elder radio crew.

Highlands Defense was outstanding imo.

 

They basically held Elder to 21 pts and the 9 was not on them. They held Shroyer to under 100 yds and not many teams have done that in a while.

They scored an obvious safety to their credit and played basically 30 mins of the game on the wrong side of the 50..Those are facts imo..

 

Ramsey got his yds passing and Iam ok with that. I wouldnt necessary call out the DB's and say that Ramsey had his way with them. If anyone knows Highlands philosophy regarding pass defense they would understand.

 

Oh yeah, Jackson Bardo scored two picks in the game.

 

I would take Highlands alll day long in a game like this if they can pull off what they did on Defense...Just sayin:thumb:

 

I think a whole bunch of credit needs to go to Elders Defense for making big plays and shutting down Highlands potent offense...

For all those that are concerned with Highlands and the fact that they lost last nite, all will be ok in Ft Thomas.

 

They lost to an GCL team named Elder who is a damn good football team with a whole bunch of game...JMO
