I was sitting right on the goal line on the Elder side of the field with 2 Elder alum and one HHS alum. I did not see the ball hit the turf but the other 3 all did. The HHS alum agreed and he even had a case of beer riding on the outcome.

I'm certainly not a rules expert in football(I just play one in other sports) but the ground can cause an incomplete pass. You have to maintain possession through the ground.

You are correct but the ball actually never did leave his arms, ever...Only after he got to his feet did the ball leaves his arms...

Sounds like Highlands really gave it their all and just came up a bit short against a very good opponent who was playing at home. I hope any injured players from both sides heal up quickly. Good luck to HHS against WC next week, and I wish Elder all the best in the Ohio playoffs!

I don't think you can make a clear argument either way from those pictures. In the bottom left picture, it looks like the ball is hitting the ground, but still not 100% clear. That is just one of those plays where both teams fans are going to see it the way they want to see it. One thing is clear - great effort by the young man.

That is true. Unless there is some type of instant replay, what the referee says goes. Even with replay, I doubt that there is enough evidence to overturn the call.

I didn't know they were questioning a fumble or not. I thought it was a question of a completion or not. If ground in a catch like this causes the ball to come out hen it's an incompletion.

I agree. It depends on what the ball did in between shots. I can see ball touching ground but it's a matter of control.
