There is no way in hell if I was a football player at my school I would take the letter off my helmet. Whoever the player or players that came up with this is not a leader at all.

I agree with Doc on this one.

I know that our coach would not have allowed this to happen at our school. Players could have vented on Nicholas Co on the field, between the lines where HS football players have a voice.

 

My thought when I read this is that this shouldn't be a shocker. The majority of these players haven't been in Westwood long enough to have any loyalty to the school, fans or community.

 

The sad thing is the ones who are in charge that should be encouraging loyalty to one's school and team.

And therein lies the problem. It is win at all costs. Not the lesson to teach any young person going into the real world.

This thread reminds me in more than a few ways of the Rose Hill threads we used to. More than any area of the state the Ashland area seems ripe for scandals like this.

 

 

Anyone that borders the Big Sandy/Tug River/Levisa probably doesn't want anyone digging real deep into where their students live/pay tuition.....from football to baseball and basketball.

WESTWOOD, Ky. — What has evolved into a very successful Kentucky Class A football program at Fairview High School near Ashland is coming under fire for possible eligibility violations.

Fairview Independent Schools Superintendent Bill Musick said Saturday that the program is under investigation by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

"We've submitted our report to the KHSAA, and I can't really say anything until we get their ruling," Musick said. "After that, I'd be glad to talk about it."

Musick also confirmed that Garry McPeek has resigned as principal and athletic director at Fairview, and will be moved to a physical education teacher's position at Fairview Elementary. McPeek has also resigned as an assistant coach for the Eagles football team.

I am not sure on this but I promise it's not far off if at all. Fairview hadn't even won a District title until they brought in the first Huntington superstar (Chris Jennings), that was around 02', - 04' somewhere in that time period. After one district title, they started claims of "storied/winning tradition", lol. BTW...the "brought in" term is correct plus housing. Fairviews superintendent basically admitted that Fact, he owns housing/ paid utilities in Westwood where some of these out of state players have lived off and on when playing at Fairview.

Haha, that is kind of funny. If 1 district Title equates to a long storied history then Cooper HS must bee a legend in the state. 1 District title, another tied for district title the following year....Fairview AD and coaches would drool over that kind of history lol.

:thumb: Plus, Bill Musick was the football coach at Johnson Central for a few years before moving to FHS, his alma mater to coach. Just a year or so later- enter C. Jennings (the 1st out/state player). Just sayin'

:thumb: Unless they are winning, there is no loyalty to anyone or team at Fairview. That has been that way since the school's playing any sport, especially in football.

There lies the difference in most any coach at any school and Fairview's coaches and administration it appears.

Another thing is that at most schools, teams - the first torn decal , replacing of a logo and the coaches wouldn't had to approve or disapprove. Other teammates would have issued the "attitude adjustment" before a coach or administrator had the chance.

Another real sad thing about all of this is that then coach, now superintendent B. Musick and current Coach McPeek are excellent football coaches and even without the incoming out/state players with perks - Fairview football was on the rise without those kids. They were starting to compete, win more and develop pride. Who knows what could have been built there ?
