Ryle 42 Highlands 0 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

They do have seniors, several of which are out for the season and the D1 lineman missed 2-3 games with a knee injury. All were/are key players for Ryle and have been replaced by sophomores. People that know nothing about football are quick to judge a coaching staff when they have no clue what's going on and never knew what was going on when they were considered "part of the loop."

When you have an OC - who has never called a play on offense in his coaching career, you get what you see on the field. You don't have to be "in the loop" "part of the loop" just watch the game and it becomes obivious.

I remember watching McCoys team lose at Ryle his frosh year. How did that end up working out? The baby birds don't get the real playbook for another year.

To the Ryle supporters -- if the trend is positive, will we see Ryle back on the HHS schedule next year if there are open dates?

Im sure you will see a few teams back on the schedule....all things point to them having a down year by there standards. Good luck to those come on board!

When the kids start playing Varsity. Just a guess.

Obviously not true. The Ryle people say the juniors and sophomores that were successful as freshmen are playing varsity now.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no big problem going on with the frosh. Just a less talented (at this point) group of kids. To me anyway, success at the frosh level doesn't mean much. Never has, which is why I've never been wrapped up the way some have in Ws and Ls at the frosh level. It generally indicates what team has some really athletic skilled players. What you see out of the linemen is not much. If you have some big O linemen that can lean on people and at least get in the way of the D and you have athletic skilled players, you win. It's that simple. You don't see good technique out of frosh O linemen (or at least I haven't, from any frosh team of any school). Line play at the frosh level is just brute play. In years past, Highlands has had the big, pudgy frosh O linemen needed for that style of play. After a couple of years in the system, they became the smaller, quick, agile O linemen Highlands is known for. But this year's frosh O line at Highlands is small; much smaller than the frosh O line I'm used to seeing. For that to work at the frosh level, they'd have to have the technique and coaching that takes a couple of years to teach. And of course, they haven't received that yet. Result: a less than successful O at the frosh level at Highlands this year. I've only been able to see one frosh game this year. But while the frosh O line didn't block well at all in that game, I liked what I saw. I have a feeling that, if those kids buy into the off season programs and listen to Coach Turner, by the time those kids become juniors some of them will become very good Highlands O linemen. This class is going to be just fine; more than just fine actually, by the time they are juniors and seniors.

Thanks lneck.

The answer is one. He transferred to NCC. Reason goes much deeper than football.

Finally someone with some facts....

Thanks stinky. Now, for that player that transferred from Highlands to NCC how many additional players on the Highlands Frosh team took part in the incidents that led to the transfer?

You dont win with sophomores. In 2004, Ryle started 4 sophomores and got crushed by a lot of schools outside the district. In 2008 they started 4-5 sophomores and a freshman and the same occurred. Both of those teams were four seeds in the playoffs. Once those sophomores got older, the team got better. So don't act like its easy to win a 6A schedule with sophomores.

I agree 100%. The vast majority of sophomores are not ready to play varsity football. A speedy skill player has a better chance at helping than a line of scrimmage player.

Here is my question for Ryle fans.

2013 - 2 wins so far.

2012 - 3 wins

Don't Ryle fans expect more?

Personally, I don't think Ryle should ever be a below .500 team. Am I wrong in my view of the program, talent and facilities?

Crickets.............

We've sort of gotten away from the thread so let me say CONGRATS to the Raiders. It's a big win no matter how you cut it.

With that out of the way, I find the excuse making laughable. IF it was an aberration that Ryle was struggling THEN we could say "hey, they're hurt."

Sadly for the Union folks, it's not an aberration. The criticism is fair.

Just heard that Dale is buying all new Headsets as they were not working again for the Frosh game.

Cmon Highlands, if you are going to be the best ya got to buy the best headset equipment as well...Just sayin
