At the risk of sounding heartless why is it just breast cancer? Why not lavender for prostrate cancer, chartreuse for lung cancer etc.

I salute efforts to raise money and awareness for cancer research, in fact I've participate in St. Baldrick's before. I raised $1000 without really trying but the cynic in me wonders if some of these high profile people aren't just raising awareness of themselves. I know many, if not most are genuine.

 

That said if/when Trinity pinks out this year I'll most likely follow suit.

I think anyone could probably organize these other tributes, the difference is that the Breast Cancer Awareness supporters seem to be FAR more active than supporters of other types of cancer awareness.

So, breast cancer is Trinity and Highlands while prostate cancer and glandular cancer are Breckinridge Co. and Clinton Co.? And to extend the FB metaphor, would lung cancer be on par with, say, a Boyle Co. or a Bell Co.? Maybe testicular cancer is more like an Estill Co.?

 

Is Relay For Life kind of like our two-day, six-class championship?

 

How do we quantify that breast cancer folks "work harder?" Or has it just become more high-profile for more random reasons, in that some high-profile organizations (NFL, for example, and whomever deemed October to be that cause's month) have taken it up as its pet cause?

 

Again, this is nothing against anyone who has been affected by breast cancer. My concern is that ALL of us have been affected by some form of cancer or another in our respective families. Why is breast cancer more important?

One part of me thinks it's great for the kids to get a sense of the bigger picture that this brings. The other part of me asks, "Why is the fight against breast cancer more important than the fight against other forms of cancer that it gets its own month?"

It is isn't more important just has a better publicist, per se.

 

It's just a lot easier to get wide support for Boobies that in is for Prostates and Colons.

Ah, Susan G. Komen Foundation's policy on suing over other companies using the color pink or word 'cure'.

Why is breast cancer more important?

 

Two reasons:

 

1. Susan G. Komen is a huge operation with a great PR department.

 

2. The NFL likes selling pink stuff to women.

 

The NFL only gives a tiny portion of proceeds to the Komen group. There was a terrific article in Slate about that just this week. The sales add cash to the league coffers and more female eyes to the TV. And as someone earlier said, the lower levels always copy the NFL. Too often it ends up looking tacky and disjointed, basically the opposite of the definition of uniform.

Any other KY high school teams with a position on the color Pink? Either wear all you want, wear some within reason, or no pink?

Your question is all over the place. Are you questioning players and teams supporting the fight against breast cancer? Are you insinuating that wearing pink makes football feminine? Or, are you concerned with how well teams' uniforms match... which would include all colors?

 

I thought I was pretty clear and I have some pink workout gear myself so I am on the bandwagon.

 

I am asking about KY high school teams, I have noticed some teams have pink games, some teams wear lots of pink and yet other teams wear little or no pink. I am interested in the logic behind each individual schools position.

We had this discussion before, I think it is genius marketing on the part of the NFL because it adds female viewership/participation in the NFL and therefore makes the NFL far more money than they give away.

Mayfield only had about 4 players with pink on this past Friday night. Two of them were my boys. Some of the players wanted my boys and a few others who had family that survived cancer to wear pink. The next game should have all the players wearing some pink. For the last 4 years Mayfield has been wearing pink in the month of October. I make sure that the pink stuff I buy has some kind of money going to research.

For every coach that denies a kid to wear pink, the coach, ()he or she should spend a day in a Cancer unit and rethink. Yes, some of the athletes may have no idea or real connection to the cause, but for those that have relatives and friends that suffer through Breast Cancer, they like to take this opportunity to display it through the colors. Football and the Uniforms is just a game, Breast Cancer is about life. I say Pink It Up. JMO

At Fern Creek and previously at Manual, Coach Nichols allows the players to wear pink gloves, shoes, wrist bands, etc. he makes them wear the game socks that everyone wears, no pink socks but has allowed pink tight or under armour type pants under the socks.

Our Def Coordinator got all of the players Pink wristbands and gave them out Friday night.

I get the feeling that many people feel if anyone questions "Pink" an "attack" is in order.

 

Suppose a Coach sits all his players down and has an in depth discussion with them about Breast Cancer (and hopefully all types of Cancer) and finds a way for the team/individual players to support the cause but tells them one way they are not going to do it is with Pink anything for whatever reason. Do you have an issue with that?
