Football has been played for decades without gloves. Forgive me if I don't see the difference in $25 gloves and $45 gloves that catch the same. You're still spending too much, regardless of price. People are buying it so they are selling it. It's not the companies fault. 90% of what we purchase is a want over a need. No difference here.

I think what most are getting at, MountainRef, Guru, myself, etc. is that it's deceptive marketing when a company talks about donating the proceeds to breast cancer research and having people think they are doing a good thing when their motivation is to sell more of their product and only send a portion of the proceeds to the actual cause.

 

I have a problem with it because instead of donating the money directly to research, people think, "oh, I've already given, my kids bought a pink towel". That's how I look at it.

The thread was about team rules regarding wearing pink. It had nothing to do with where the money goes.

 

Like I said, there's a whole hell of a lot more being donated now than before. Anyone that gave to the cause and thinks they are making a substantial donation because they bought pink Nike or Under Armour aren't likely to give anyway.

Didn't Corbin Coach Jewell sit, suspend or punish a player for wearing Pink last season.

I was thinking about this. While all cancers are terrible, I know MANY more families impacted by breast cancer than other cancers. I have a large family with history of cancer and it still isn't close. Maybe it's just me.

 

Agree all cancers are terrible. However, what about all these cancers that kill men?

Crash, this is more of an NFL complaint for but by all the high schools following suit it becomes their issue too, the NFL is on the breast cancer bandwagon because they are trying to market to women.

 

I really like what mountain ref had to say about the ribbon on the helmets. They are supporting the cause and they are politically correct.

But if the complaint is the amount of money given to the organizations, which is what so many have stated, ribbon's on the helmet give less than buying a $45 pair of gloves.

As for the other cancers, no one has said they are less important. No one, not just the NFL, has taken a stance on any specific form of cancer other than breast cancer.

When you ask about a school's policy are you asking if they make it mandatory to wear pink or if they allow it?

 

I'm not sure any school makes it mandatory for a kid to go out and buy pink to wear. I know a ton of schools that would have to buy it for the entire team to make it mandatory and part of their uniform.

That anyone cares whether or not athletes wear pink to support breast cancer. I understand the sentiment that we should "embrace" the research for ALL types of cancer, I agree with that. But as someone else said, who is it hurting by athletes wearing pink?

Seriously, my donations go to cancer research. Not one specific cancer, just research to find a cure for that dreaded disease. I won't chastise anyone that gives to other organizations that are deserving. Nor will I chastise the amount given. Even if it's the NFL's small percentage donations.
