No. Stopping the run is the most basic defensive football there is. If you can't do that, then go play soccer.

Run it between the tackles.. if they can't stop that..reduce it down to straight dives. A FB dive is a valuable friend to keeping a running clock game respectable.

I think so but with limits.

 

If the freshmen are scoring on the ground against another schools varsity , what can you do but concede.

After thinking on this some, I don't see where this is that big a deal. Getting beat 60 something points is just about the same as 80. It's a mighty butt whippin.

Huge difference between competitive and non-competitive games.

Things happen. Mayfield had their JV in Friday night against Marshall County(6A). They feed the ball to freshman RB Trajon Bright and he took it 65 yards to the house. He did this twice Friday night against their starters. It just happens.

To add to that, in most cases it would be the team that is ahead asking their JV and Freshmen to do the laying down against an opposing team's varsity team. That doesn't seem safe or practical to me.

 

More than that I find that to be 10X more offensive. It sucks and it is embarrassing to give up 80. But it would be down right humiliating to know a team took a knee every play the second half.

I am hard pressed here but I have an open mind.

How in the world can the words "running clock game" and "respectable" be used in the same sentence in consecutive order? What is respectable about a running clock game? That's an oxymoron. This game in question was a running clock game after the first quarter.

That's pretty much what BG would have had to do to keep people from complaining. Hike the ball and fall down for 4 plays and then turn it over on downs.

I haven't read this thread before posting, but this is my initial opinion:

 

If my 3rd string is good enough to score and score often on your 1st string, that is YOUR problem. Not mine. As PP said in the other thread, freshmen want to score too.

Welcome to the big time. Yes it's acceptable if you have subbed freely but don't get your knickers in a bunch when the malcontents come out of the woodwork and chasten you for "running the score up" because there are always people that think a team should stop scoring.

How about "non-controversial" then instead of respectable

 

Since there are 3-4 threads about BG's running clock win it is apparent that their obviously is a difference in a standard issue running clock and something "else".
