Does a Scott HS win this week take the heat off their schedule?

Featured Replies

Much has been said about the Scott Eagles undefeated start, with some centered around their schedule. Does a win against Cooper keep those who credit their 5-0 start to a "weak" schedule quiet? What say you!!!!!

It should.. Scott is talented with a very good line and skilled players. I just don't think they have been pushed enough to win this game. I hope I am wrong though..

Yes if they win. If not the jokes will continue.

It would be a nice win for the program.

It would not change the fact that their first 5 games have been soft.

In the end the weak schedule will not matter with wins in the last half.

I think it will quiet some, no doubt the best opponent the Eagles have faced by a mile. With that being said, if Cooper loses this game, they may only be favored in one more game this season. Have we put them on a pedestal due to one exceptional season?

It isn't Scott's fault that the schedule seems to have come up light. The teams they are playing should be having better years than they have shown so far.

It wont matter people will continue to say their schedule is week.

Cooper is not really that good, so Im not real sure it does anything either way.

Their schedule is week-to-week.

I agree though that if they win it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what they do in 5A district play and the playoffs.

Which teams should be having better years?

Which teams should be having better years?

Lets say Scott pretty much started working on this schedule in 2011. At this point in 2011, Holy Cross had a winning record and went on the win 2A state championship. Holmes had a winning record and was playing 1 and 2 point games with Cooper and Simon Kenton. Newport was winning games maybe against Dayton and other 1A and 2A schools but at least they could win games.

Now in 2013 Newport is getting blown out and can't win a game, Holy Cross is getting blown out and can't win a game, Holmes is winning but against much worse competition than in 2011.

I'll be the first to say Scott's schedule to date has been soft. But, who did people want them to play? CovCath, Highlands? I'm guessing anyone who's been around Scott for very long has seen enough of those two schools to last a lifetime.

I think a lot of the knock on Scott's schedule is because they chose to remove Simon Kenton and Dixie several years ago. Kenton County is an open enrollment district, and Scott was getting pounded annually by these two schools. Why would they keep playing them, if it was hurting their chances to lure potential football players into the school. I think it was a great decision by the Scott administration/coaches. But, I know it miffed a lot of people at SK and Dixie.

I wonder why Scott's schedule is the lightning rod it is? Holmes' for instance is off to a pretty good start. So in looking at their non district slate I noticed the 4A Bulldogs play 4 class 2A teams, 2 class A teams, and one class 5A team, Scott.

Look, Scott has not had decent records for quite a long time for a multitude of reasons that have all been discussed on here ad infinitum. Would I like to see them play other KC schools? Sure. But they have dropped to 5A and there's no requirement to play the other two now. The schedule is designed to get success which adds confidence which adds school spirit which adds interest in the program. It's all about getting those Jimmys and Joes walking the halls of Scott or Woodland who otherwise don't want to play for a not so successful team. I'd say they are basically approaching this season's schedule like a first year high school football team, re-inventing the program.

I do know nobody complained about Scott's schedule when they were going 2-8. And at the end of the season, I think their schedule ends up being pretty reasonable. 3 of the 4 district games are tough, and Holmes and West Jessamine will turn out to be decent wins (and games that they never would have won in years past) and Mason county should be a good game (although Mason's performance against Newport last week makes me wonder). I guess the question is who do you want them to play?? Despite the fact that many have been predicting good things for this years senior class, it would not have been a good idea to load up with 6a schools, or Cov Cath, or Highlands or any other state power. Right now it's about building momentum, and with the success this year that Scott and Woodland Middle school has had, coupled with this being the third year of the TM Eagle program, people are actually excited about football in Taylor Mill, probably for the first time ever. When this program can consistently win 7 games every year, then it makes sense to toughen up the schedule. I think the schedule is just about right for where the program is right now.

And the bolded of your post is the point I was trying to make as well. It's better for all of NKY football if Scott improves.......heck it's better if all improve, make this area's football stronger.
