Does a Scott HS win this week take the heat off their schedule?

Featured Replies

This is what you will get if Scott wins especially if the game isn't close.

Well even though plantmanky isn't impressed with Scott, I will say anyone that is 5-0 isn't too shabby. I don't care who they played, to be 5-0 is nothing to downplay. I like what Scott has done so far, so I will give them credit as I've done all year so far.

That is just plantman being plantman, as you can see in the posts in this thread, so I wouldn't worry too much about him knocking a team. If you see enough of his posts on here, you will know that is what he does.

This is an important game for Scott in the eyes of the football community. The Holmes win was a good win, especially by the margin of victory. A win in this game will confirm that Scott is as good as many people thought they would be this year. A loss is a big blow to the Scott psyche.

I commend Scott on their great 5-0 start but one needs to look deep into the schedule to understand how each of these teams have been or has not been prepared for district play. This WILL be the first time Scott has been tested. They are 5-0 and nothing can be done about who was on their schedule but consider the opponents of these 2 schools to date. 3 of Scotts wins have come vs. 2A schools of which only 1 has a winning record and a D2/3 Ohio school who is 0-4 and never been known for doing ANYTHING on the football field. The other remaining win is vs. 4A Holmes who does have a 3-1 record but all 3 wins are vs. 2A schools. While Holy Cross was a State Champ 2 years ago they, like Cooper, were hit hard with graduation and have been outscored 185-34. So as I said, the schedule is the schedule and they are to be commended for what they have done.

Cooper is 2-3, can't dispute the record but they have faced much better competition which has prepared them for district play. Of their 5 opponents, there has been (1) 2A opponent in NCC (last year's State Champion and who undoubtedly has had one of the toughest schedules in NKY with 4A,5A, and (3) 6A schools to date) and (4) 6A schools 2 of which Cooper led deep into the 2nd half before eventually losing those games and one of which, SK, who arguably will make it to the State-semi's if not win it all, yeah, I said it.

My point in all the above is one team has been battle tested and one hasn't and this will come into play in this game in my opinion. Cooper is not as "down" as most believe so let's just see how this "second season" plays out before calling them the doormat of the district which I have seen someone earlier call them.

Unless the bus breaks down on the way to the game Grant doesn't beat Cooper.

Barrel you more in the know than me, has Grant not improved the last few weeks?

No way Cooper misses the playoffs. Grant is very bad again, watched them against LLoyd and Walton. They might be able to compete in Class A. Their low numbers and failure to get all the athletes to play has hurt their program.

With that said: Conner is favorite because of QB, however, the district is wide open which makes the Cooper and Scott game very important. I believe Scott wins because Cooper wont stop them. Their QB and WR (Morgan) are very good and could keep them in the game. If Scott wins this game they will get on a roll. This game sets the momentum for the rest of the year.

Apparently most of us in here know more than you.....just sayin

There are times they have improved some but they are very young. Those young kids are still trying to figure out how to act on Friday nights. Its still a little bit of a cluster.

Big game for Scott. If they win, they end some of the talk about a weak schedule, although Cooper isn't a world beater this year. A close loss or win shows improvement over past seasons but a big win would tell everyone that the Eagles are for real and ready to next the next step.

Don't think Coach Borchers won't have Cooper fired up to play an undefeated Scott team.

Scott has played two 2A teams not 3 (Newport and Holy Cross). West Jessamine is 5A team in which Scott was tested coming back from 2 TD's down in the last 6-7 mins of the game. Much has been said and criticized about Scott's schedule so there is no sense in beating that dead horse anymore.

But take a look at Cooper's schedule and one has to wonder how good this Cooper team really is. And they may well be very good but lets go by what we know so far. Their 2 wins have come against teams with a combined record of 1-9. One of the wins was against a 2A team which is having a down year and their other win is against a winless 6A school that some would argue maybe the worst 6A school in the state and may struggle to win one game. Cooper also has a 7 point loss to a 1-4 6A school whom also seems be down this year. A lop sided loss to SK and a Campbell Cty game which sounds like it could have went either way. I know Cooper gets style points for playing 6A schools but you can't help but wonder how good are the teams that Cooper has beaten or even played well against so far.

I do believe Cooper's schedule has been tougher than Scott's but can we honestly say Cooper has been more impressive than Scott thus far? I hope both schools play well and injury free football Friday night.

^ Eagle2013 ... Cooper has not been more impressive than Scott. Cooper has played a tougher schedule than Scott. If Scott wins this week, it doesn't change the fact that the schedule is weak. And this is a new schedule year so this schedule was put together this past off season with full knowledge and expectations that this year's team was going to be really good.

That being said, I really don't have a problem with Scott's schedule. This year's schedule is a two year contract and this schedule is just about right for Scott over the next 2 years. The only game I really question is the Aiken game. I don't get that one at all. Put a solid 4A team in there (not Highlands or CCH) and I would say the schedule is perfect for Scott and where they are right now. That doesn't change the fact that the schedule is weak. Scott is moving forward step by step, and it is the right way to build it.

Finally, a win over Cooper does not change the fact that the schedule to this point is weak. A win is further proof that despite the weak schedule, Scott is pretty darn good.

Scott is 5-0 and as I've said from where they have been in years past this is a grat start. Anyone who is 5-0 has confidence and that can be dangerous.

Cooper has 3 losses but only one game where they were truly beaten. One loss in the last 30 secs after a blocked punt and another with 2 turnovers including one on the 2 yard line and they lost by 5. Yes Cooper is down but it wasn't the lack of talent that has coat them but more of them shooting themselves in the foot. Something like 10 turnovers already.

I have been one of the few outside Scott giving them their due on here this year. I don't think anyone who has to play them are taking them lightly. Conner remembers how tough a game it was last year and Scott has only gotten better. Cooper isn't taking them lightly even knowing their schedule this far. Scott is good and I will say it again, they remind me of the 2011 Cooper team and all they did was sweep district.
