That is where you are wrong. They could have had most of the big in state kids Mack has missed on due to poor evaluations. He has tried to get "cute" and as a result has lowered the brand. All it takes is to lock down the kids that all want the UT offer. Hell, Oregon has made its spot at the top of the food chain on kids Mack Brown and his staff didn't properly evaluate. Do you really think those kids would have said no to Texas if they were made a priority???

If Texas is such a big deal why did they go from 1970 to Vince Young without a title, all of the other legendary programs have won multiple titles between the last two Texas titles...seems like more than Mack misjudged talent. Obviously all of the new TV deals have evened up the money pie some, but Texas still has more than anyone to work with. They don't have to ever leave the state for talent, and when it is rolling they get just about every elite kid they want from that massive talent pool. The resources are literally unlimited and assistants can write their own check. The Big 12 is a LOT more conducive to victories than the SEC and with no title game the path to the playoff is a million times easier. Texas is just a different animal when compared to every other job in college sports...

On that we agree and it hurts me to say it being an ND fan. I just don't think its a large enough gap to get Saban to leave. Now that all changes when an Oil billionaire come in and offers 10mil a year.

Your right, I guess Alabama is the only Legendary program when you look at championships over the decades, winning titles in the 20's, 30's, 40's, 60's, 70's, 90's, 00's and 10's. In the past Century there are only two decades the 50's (Pre-Bear) and 80's (Perkins-Curry) in which they never didn't win a Title...ROLL TIDE!!!

He could get paid more, and wouldn't have to leave the state to recruit. Alabama is Alabama, but the state of Texas loves their Longhorns. Don't see this as a lateral move really.

The football team gets to play at DKR Stadium, which is incredible in and of itself, but the amenities provided to players in the football complex are insane.

 

In a state that idolizes football, the Longhorn football program has long been Mecca, and these ridiculous digs for the football program cement that status.

 

Ridiculous screens to entertain players and teach the the system are scattered across the facility, as well as hot tubs, pools, meeting rooms, a practice field and a plethora of burnt orange.

 

Stop by some time and be amazed by the status that a Texas player enjoys in such palatial accommodations.

No offense, but I don't put a lot of stock into Bleacher Report.

 

Texas' indoor practice facility cost ~$4 million to build in 2002. UK's basketball practice facility cost ~$34 million in 2007.

 

I live here and have driven by Texas' practice facility plenty, and it's no match for the SEC ones.

You don't get it though, UT is the state of Texas not just Austin. He would be the up there with the governor in the state of Texas.

Personally, I think Los Angeles is a hellscape. I'd be able to handle one week of an hour-long car commute and I'd be ready to move to a commune in Wyoming.

 

But you never know how people feel about a place.

Good points. Also until very recently the Bowl system didn't really make an effort to see that the best team had a shot at the championship. For many years it was a popularity contest as undefeated teams would go overlooked because they didn't have the proper bowl affiliation.

I have no clue if he would ever leave and I don't think he would do it for the reason I'm going to state. Let's say he wins this year. That is 3 in a row and 4 in 5 years. Dynasty would fit in most peoples' point of view. He won 1 at LSU. So go to Texas and then he would have 6 titles and would of won 1 at 3 different schools. At that point it would be hard to say he wasn't the best ever.

 

I'm sure he wouldn't do it for those reasons but it is fun to kick the idea around.
