September 20, 201312 yr Yeah they could have maybe gotten some of those kids, but they NEVER got them all at any point in the past. If Texas is such a big deal why did they go from 1970 to Vince Young without a title, all of the other legendary programs have won multiple titles between the last two Texas titles...seems like more than Mack misjudged talent. I say this as a Texas fan, but I don't think they are any better job than USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio St or even Michigan. Exactly what I've been thinking reading some of these posts. I actually live about an hour from Austin, and have been there on a number of occasions. Reading some of this stuff, you'd think Texas has the history that Alabama does. If the reality of their situation was like it was made out to be on here, they'd have many more titles than they do, not as many as Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami, and Auburn in the BCS era. Historically, Texas hasn't even been the best team in their conference. That title would belong to Oklahoma.

Then again, Bama wasn't Bama until Saban arrived...they had toiled in obscurity for over a decade as well.

I do look back as a Longhorn fan however and know that in '83 the Horns were a fumbled punt away from winning the National Title. It's not as if they weren't among the best at various times, just could never win a title in that long span.
