He's set the bar so unrealistically high, that even very, very, very, very good seasons may not be enough from here on out. At least at Texas, he'd be starting over, and could still go "up". Even if he goes "down" at Alabama, there'd be another cushy collegiate coaching job with a fat salary waiting on him barring something catastrophic or a show cause scandal. With that said, I understand your point. It's like Spurrier said when he left Florida, "it's a relief when we win and a disappointment when we lose".

Honestly, Texas' practice facility leaves much to be desired. Lots of boosters with deep pockets, but land in downtown Austin is hard for anyone to come by. Their facilities are conveniently located off the edge of bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-35 and honestly, I think the Nutter Fieldhouse looks nicer from the exterior. I've driven by it numerous times, and it's definitely not what I expected. If we're talking facilities, there's Oregon, Alabama, etc., but Texas has a way to go. To put it in perspective, their indoor practice facility was built around 2002 for $4 million. UK's Craft Center was built at a cost of $30+ million around 2007. September 20, 201312 yr Texas is one of my favorite football programs and has been since the Tyler Rose was getting his tear away's tore off. I think college football is more interesting when the legendary programs (Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame, USC the Four Horsemen on College Football) are relevant. I can't see Saban leaving Alabama for Texas.

Obviously all of the new TV deals have evened up the money pie some, but Texas still has more than anyone to work with. They don't have to ever leave the state for talent, and when it is rolling they get just about every elite kid they want from that massive talent pool. The resources are literally unlimited and assistants can write their own check. The Big 12 is a LOT more conducive to victories than the SEC and with no title game the path to the playoff is a million times easier. Texas is just a different animal when compared to every other job in college sports...

September 20, 201312 yr Aside from the money, which I'm guessing Alabama will gladly try to match given the revenue he's brining into their program, what does Saban really have to gain? Trying to win a national title at a 3rd school? I just think if he's going to leave for the money, it will be for NFL money, not college money. And no, no college is going to pay what a pro team would. UK pays well, but we all remember how the Boston Celtics came in and made Pitino an offer that we couldn't even come close to. I think he has a lot more to lose, especially considering he's got enough time left at Alabama with what he currently has to be considered a modern day Bear Bryant. Yes, I said it. Bear Bryant. Even in a different era, Bryant didn't win three straight championships. IF Saban wins it all this year, that's his 5th, and 3rd in a row. Bear never won 3 in a row, and only won 6 overall. Why would he really consider leaving that when he has a chance to go down as the greatest college coach of his generation, and maybe even all time? As great as he is, the rebuilding job at Alabama still took some time. Does he really want to start over when he's still within reasonable striking distance of such a legacy?

Texas has had times when they were rolling and didn't get enough talent out of the state to win a national title between 1970 and 2005. Talent in Texas is spread out to many other schools now and they don't get every kid in Texas that they want these days. I think there are also plenty of schools that will "Pay" to get the assistants the HC wants, as you said money is evening out. Texas facilities are at best upper mid level compared to the SEC and many Big 10 schools have better also.

At Alabama, Saban basically owns the whole state (I don't think Auburn is really hurting him right now in that sense), similar to the way LSU owns Louisiana on the recruiting trail... well, aside from the few prime, elite Louisiana kids Saban has just recently begun to get). At Texas, there's this emerging problem called Texas A&M. It started small, but now it's grown into the 12,000 pound elephant in the room. They have a strong foothold in the Houston area (where the top teams and talent in Texas are on a yearly basis). They've also gotten legitimacy because they beat... Alabama, who was coached by Nick Saban. Leaving Alabama for Texas means that, until something changes, no matter what, no matter how talented Texas appears, deep down, there will be doubts about whether Texas is really the 'BEST' team in the nation or not, and those doubts will only be vanquished once they beat the best from the SEC. That, along with Saban's chasing The Bear's legacy (as mentioned in my previous post) is why I don't see Texas as a "lateral" or "upward" move from Alabama, at least not right now. It's not as easy as Texas simply cherry-picking five star recruits from their state. Right now, Alabama currently has 6 players from Texas on their roster, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that any school in the nation would have taken them. Why does Saban need to go to Texas to recruit when he can come into Texas and take a good number of the kids of theirs he wants as things currently stand anyway? That's just how I look at it.
September 20, 201312 yr Talent in Texas is spread out to many other schools now and they don't get every kid in Texas that they want these days. That is where you are wrong. They could have had most of the big in state kids Mack has missed on due to poor evaluations. He has tried to get "cute" and as a result has lowered the brand. All it takes is to lock down the kids that all want the UT offer. Hell, Oregon has made its spot at the top of the food chain on kids Mack Brown and his staff didn't properly evaluate. Do you really think those kids would have said no to Texas if they were made a priority???
