Wedding Reception Rule: If "Blurred Lines" is now on the playlist...what song....

Featured Replies

Is there something secretly (to me, anyway) nasty/racy about this song? I've not explored the lyrics, but from a nondiscriminatory listen it seems like a song you would hear for a Kings Island commercial or something. I guess I'm saying I don't get it.

Some women have referred to it is "rapey."

I guess the "I know you want it" line caused that.

I've never once thought of it that way.

My favorite lyric is " You want to hug me........what rhymes with hug me" Now that is classic songwriting.

I'd guess a few lines from Verse 3 might be why...
Mony mony or love shack

Mrs. TAC told our DJ if he played Mony Mony he would not get paid.

Bug me?

Bug me?

I'll go an angrier "Slug Me".

It's clearly obvious, that more than one song needs to go. Rocky Top I think is a regional thing, as I've never heard it at weddings where I'm from, and it does need to go. I'm also fine never hearing Mony,Mony go away as well. But I really, never, ever want to hear the Chicken Dance again.

I have often said (OK complained) the DJ's at wedding rehersals play 80% of the same songs. I have said if I marry, if the Duck Dance, the Electric Slide or the Macarena are played, a heavy object will be flung at the DJ.

Canon Law requires it at all Catholic wedding receptions.

Must be a Northern KY thing. I can't recall the last time I have heard it at a wedding I have been too.

With you on that. Not played in WKY

Blurred Lines is a wedding reception song? My, oh, my ...

I haven't been to very many receptions the last couple years, but I have never heard it at a reception. Do people jump to the dance floor when it is played? The lyrics are definitely on the edgy side for a reception, especially with Grandma and Grandpa sitting there.

I've never once heard Rocky Top at a wedding reception. :idunno:

Me either.

And I completely forgot about "Cotton Eye Joe". Another one I never heard until I moved to Northern KY.
