My humble opinion re. announcers...less is more.

Somerset's old PA Guy is now the Radio Play by Play man...he was a great announcer and does a great job on the radio.

 

I can't stand the PA guys that do play-by-play over the PA while the play is in progress, it seems that more and more are doing this. At one game last year the PA guy was actually yelling "It's a fake, It's a fake" as our QB rolled out on a naked bootleg after faking a hand off. It seemed as if he was trying to alert the LB's to go the other way...:lol2:

You guys will have to get down to Garnis Martin Field in the Bourbon City to check out their guy ...

That is exactly why play by play should not be done and there should be a rule against it like they have in Ohio. Not much sense in faking a handoff and then dropping back to pass when the PA guy is calling out the fake. Hard to run a trick play if the PA guy is announcing over the mic who has the ball. If PA play by play is getting more prevalent, the KHSAA will need to do something about it, unless there already is a rule. No one answered my question above ... is there a rule on it in KY?

I have no problem with loud music. Some music is best heard loud. But when it gets so loud you can't hear the person next to you, that is a problem. I was at a game at UC a couple years ago and ran into someone I hadn't seen in a while. We had to cut the conversation short because we couldn't hear what each other was saying because the music was so loud.

I was at a Taylor County game several years ago and the PA and Music was so loud that it almost made your ears hurt. The speakers were just a few feet above our head. At some point in the game the wires going to the speakers fell apart (maybe they were cut). Two years later the PA was markedly quieter than it had been on the first visit.

I don't need no stinkin PA to tell me what is going on or who did what; so they can unplug them all as far as I'm concerned! Of course, I liked Keeneland when it was silent. Getting old has its benefits: you have an excuse for being grumpy.

 

LN "makers and grizzly" will make that grumpy attitude go away. Friday nite will be here soon!

I have always been fond of Mike Guetig that does the Trinity home games. He has always been very matter of fact without any extraneous stuff.

Wow, when you guys were talking about play-by-play, I was thinking it was AFTER the fact...not DURING! I've usually heard something along the lines of "Smith's pass, caught by Jones for an 8 yard gain. Tackle made by Johnson. Brings up a 3rd down and two from the Dog's 34 yard line." all of which is usually done after the play is whistled dead and is usually over by the time the officials spot the ball and put it back in play. Short, simple, but gives you the details that you might not be able to specifically see if you're at the opposite end of the field.

I'm not a fan of the Camel announcer. If I want play by play I would turn the radio dial.

 

Is this the same guy who would "do play by play" during the play thereby assisting Campbell's defense at times?
