Not that crazy. I sat in both and I think there was a 10-15 degree difference.

Oh I'm sure the temp was cooler in the shade. Usually always is. Right? HHS usually only plays on Sat every other year and occasionally a Sat in December. Difference in this day was one team had 100 players and the other 40ish.

Nick True has been out for the past 5 weeks with a knee injury. Just started this week in pads. He was in a couple of plays as #52. Will be back for the Campbell Co. game on friday as either #19 or #52.

Beau Hoge didnt see the field much early in the game when things were competitive. Hated seeing Seth go out early, I was jacked up ready to see him sack some QB's.

 

Defensive standouts I thought were obviously Wrobleski at safety...he took the top off a few times and I thought there might be a decapitation. The sound of him flying in and hitting the back on one play was almost sickening...it was a hollow sound like helmet to helmet. Next thing you see is him running around behind the pile celebrating. Love his enthusiasm out there and aggressiveness. #71 Matt Gall had an oustanding game on the Defensive line as well. Pangallo and Murray did a great job on the outside as well.

 

Jensen Feggins is a stud...Period. That kid can go up and get a ball and then he can run with it fending off tacklers. Great hands, strong kid who should really garner some Div 1 attention this year.

 

Sophomore Kicker Jared Daugherty was putting on a clinic with his booming kickoffs. No better place to show your foot than on ESPNU. I am guessing he will get some major looks as well with his foot.

 

Green/Hergott and Weyer were there usual selves catching balls and taking big chunks out of the defense. Weyer catching that long one was a thing of beauty. Drew showed excellent touch and layed it right in there. Justin got some nice airtime on ESPNU as well....poor kid looks like he is 12 yrs old in the face. LOL

 

Zach Harris was a beast...the guy just squares his shoulders and bulldozes people. He showed some excellent bursts of speed as well. He is a winner period.

 

The 2 platoon system definitely won this game for the Birds. UC was coming off the ball in the 4th qtr slower than my 90 yr old grandma could. They literally were just standing up and going through the motions. They had some big big boys though. Kudos to them for coming up and accepting the challenge.

 

Saw a lot of red faces at the 915 after the game...I dont know how you all stayed in those bleachers. I was up in the Taj Mahal with the Foundation Folks and even though its tough to get a full field view....the wings were delicious and it was nice and shady. They do an excellent job up there as always.

The University Christian team had 21 transfers into their program this year. They play in the "private" division in Floriday, and transfers in and out of schools are common. Limited ability to scout this team according to coaching staff due to the transfers in. Great showing by the Birds. Wasn't sure in the beginning they were going to get it together, but once they got the pump primed it was pretty clearly over.

In watching the ESPNU replay, these were some of my favorite comments of the day:

 

ESPNU Announcer (with the Birds up 33-10): "Most of the talented athletes are on University Christian."

 

Coach Mueller (In a sideline session with his offense): "If this guy's coming, he is slow. Slow...slow...slow! They're pooped! That's what they're doin' to us...and they're pooped!"

 

ESPNU Announcer (Moments after Dale says "pooped" [x2] on national television): "I like 'gassed,' but 'pooped' might've gotten the point across better."

If the offensive line protects Drew this year, 4A is doomed.

I sat in the stands for the first 1 1/2 quarters. I about passed out. When I went to the concession stand (in the shade) the difference was significant. Not saying that was the difference in the game, but those in the sun were baking. As a matter of fact, you could see it on the Highlands sideline. The part of their sideline that was in the sun (right about the 50) was nearly empty - all the Birds were staying in the shade.

As to the first quote, I'd agree. You put several of those UC kids in the Bluebird system and they'd be absolute stars. No question they had some very talented kids on that UC team.

Technically, 21 of them were not state champion football players -- not for this team anyway.

Watching this one now(Game 10 for me, with three more to watch on tv)

I love the way the stadium looks on TV and you can really hear the croud.

 

Though I did not pick Highlands to win this one, I am really glad they not only won but did so in such a large way.

 

Still waiting to see Highlands play Cleveland Glenville (OH) and Big school Canton McKinley.

Once the depth kicked in, this one was never in doubt. Go ahead and give Highlands their 7th title in a row.
