Unless they started more than 11 players at a time on defense.... they lost more than three starters....Morris, Collins, Centers, Mitchell, and Neuman off the top of my head....

Serious question, do you really think Scott is number 7, or are you taking a "wait and see" approach on them?

 

Scott looked Good Friday night, Castleman was a dominate force for the Eagles in the back field. I feel it is safe to say they are the number 7 team.

Voice is bang on when he calls a scrimmage a litmus test with test being the key word. Why do kids take practice ACTs before the real thing? Why does Tiger Woods play practice rounds? it's to get an idea of what you have when it's all in the line. Voice has provided more insightful posts on BGP than most. Maybe you should post on Dear Abbey first then try BGP again.

You're one of the nicest guys on the site so let's please consider this together civilly. If "rookies" went with the status quo and never challenged the "hierarchy", we'd still be living in the stone age without benefit of metal, there would not be a United States of America for disenchfranchised Brits to populate, there would be no Equal Rights Amendment and women and blacks wouldn't have voting rights. There would have been no Jackie Robinson if the "hierarchy" had its way. There would be no Title IX if the "hierarchy" had its way. Daughters would not be playing high school fastpitch softball because they would still be playing slowpitch, at the demand of the "hierarchy" and not one black man would be playing football. Rebuking a "rookie" just because of the factual way he/she responds to a hierarchical post filled with second-hand info and opinion doesn't seem very fair and is akin to killing the messenger. Besides, appearances can be deceiving. I've been on the site for years just not under this name.

And so is this: Conner gave up an average of 28.1 points per game last year and Cooper gave up fully half that, 14. Another fact: Conner has fewer starters returning on defense than Cooper, six. Fact: Conner lost its entire defensive line. Let me just ask you. How in the heck is Conner going to put on the field a defense on a par with Cooper's after allowing twice as many points and returning fewer defensive starters? Also, when you say that Cooper "lost their top 5 or 6 players" you're not dealing with facts. But I did notice how you conveniently omitted the huge loss of Cameron Fogle for Conner in that sentence. Cooper losing Morris is huge? You bet. What about the loss of Fogle for Conner? Just as huge. And since when does a scrimmage become a litmus test for a team to someone calling himself a Voice of Reason? Just the facts please in your response.

First, thanks to all for jumping in in my defense.

 

As to your comments, Rock N. Rolle, I think the other posters, including big Cooper supporter Hellbird, have pointed out that I am fair and factual in my comments. Although I will make one minor correction ... Cooper does have one of their top 5 or 6 players returning - Aaron Morgan. Beyond Morgan, Cooper lost some studs. It isn't just starters they lost, these kids were top tier players - Morris, Collins, Centers, Mitchell. You can build a high quality team around those players and Cooper did. I was as big a fan of Cooper as anyone on here last year. Go back and check the posts last year. From game one I said Cooper was going to be great and I even asked on this site whether they might be better than those almighty Bluebirds.

 

I am sorry my comment bothered you but I just try to call it as I see it. I had doubts about Cooper being able to replace those top tier players and when they struggled in their scrimmage, it just reinforced those doubts. I think this is a statement season for Cooper. All their program success so far is due to that group of players who graduated last year. This year is a big year to say the program is deeper than that and success can be repeated.

 

As to Conner, I trust my eyes. I know they lost their line and Fogle. I thought people had them over rated in pre season talk I was hearing. But I saw Conner on Friday and it was the best defense I have seen from them in the past few years. I am not saying it is a shutdown defense but it is better than what you have seen from them. Offensively, they have Barker and that is more than enough, even without Fogle.

Ummm...then why do teams scrimmage? Of course it's a test, to see where you stand under game conditions against actual competition. And talking in general, not about Cooper or any school in particular. If my team looked bad in a scrimmage (and my team did Friday night) then I would be worried going into the season.
