Top 10 Preseason Northern Kentucky Poll

Featured Replies

When Cooper blew the pants off of NewCath in the scrimmage, it sure looked like a good precursor to both teams' seasons. Cooper was one of the top 3 teams in NKY all season and NewCath started slow. I believe that passing off a scrimmage as nothing more is misplaced. It certainly does give you a very accurate picture of where you currently stand.

Rookies DO NOT speak to the "hierarchy" like this. :lol2:

You're one of the nicest guys on the site so let's please consider this together civilly. If "rookies" went with the status quo and never challenged the "hierarchy", we'd still be living in the stone age without benefit of metal, there would not be a United States of America for disenchfranchised Brits to populate, there would be no Equal Rights Amendment and women and blacks wouldn't have voting rights. There would have been no Jackie Robinson if the "hierarchy" had its way. There would be no Title IX if the "hierarchy" had its way. Daughters would not be playing high school fastpitch softball because they would still be playing slowpitch, at the demand of the "hierarchy" and not one black man would be playing football. Rebuking a "rookie" just because of the factual way he/she responds to a hierarchical post filled with second-hand info and opinion doesn't seem very fair and is akin to killing the messenger. Besides, appearances can be deceiving. I've been on the site for years just not under this name.

Me thinks you take yourself too serious. Man, I thought Hellbird was defensive of Cooper. Even Hellbird is reasonable in his assessment at this time.

You are way off-base on your comments about VOR. I don't give him respect due to Hierarchy or Seniority, I give him respect because his posts are always well thought-out with a great deal of evidence to support them. You may not agree with him, but I can assure you that he probably has a near 90% accuracy rating in his predictions. You simply called his information second-hand, but I don't see where you provided any additional information to say that it was inaccurate.

Get over yourself.

btw... If you are going to criticize folks for spelling errors, you may want to make sure properly use the Quote feature on the site. Its probably more important to correctly quote than it is to spell a gossip column name.

Is it 8 or is it 6 as DoubleDeuce thinks it is?

Returning Starters on Defense

Nueman, Fussinger, Morgan, Ludwig, Pauls and several others platooned a lot last year such as Richardson, Froehlicher.

Those are the ones I can think of.

Does Cooper run guys both ways? If so, Why?

They do because they don't have the numbers and athletes yet to platoon.

For instance last year they only had 6 sophomores come out. So you have to wait until you have the numbers to platoon. The next couple years should be much better, I think they had something like 20 sophomores come out this year and should have similar next year and that is how they need to build to start leaning toward platooning.

I would guess in about 4 years they will be leaning that way a lot more than having players go both ways.

My comment was about 95% "tongue in cheek" and 5% serious. I understood your point, and agree with the above. Welcome to BGP.

There is no way a 5A school should have that many players going both ways. IMO, they shouldn't have any. Kids will step up. It's short-sided of the coach to place everything in the hands of a few athletes. You don't wait until you have the so-called "Athletes" to do it. If you spread the athelticism out and fill-in with less experienced its better than wearing out your athletes. Injuries will be less damaging as well.

If you had that last year, then its very impressive that you made it as far as you did.

In theory I agree with you, but the reality is they needed to play both ways to be competitive. There are more schools that have players going both ways than not. Cooper isn't the exception to that rule they are among the majority. Put it this way, Boone is platooning for the first time this year and they are 6A. Most schools do it than not.

It's public school football. Just because you have 50 athletes on the team, it doesn't mean they are all in fact athletes.

None of them have a field house like SK.

Scott does....and it is MUCH nicer. SK has the bigger weight room, but that's about all they have on the facility at Scott. Top notch all the way around.

As far as top 10...to shake things up a little::

1. Highlands

2. Simon Kenton

3. Dixie

4. Conner

5. Covcath

6. NCC

7. Scott

8. Beechwood

9. Ryle

10. Cooper

Yes, they are apparently very slow to learn. Doesn't make it right. My guess is the teams that win the most in the upper 3 classes have very few starters playing both ways.

Boone was two platooning back in the 80's when Hauck was there.

Other than Ryle in the top 10 I don't see the above as shaking it up. I could see SK and Dixie being #2 and #3. Of course, CCH gets Dixie next week so we'll get an early idea. In other words, it's quite open.

What does Public School vs. Private got to do with it? A lot of parents like Hellbird want to believe that their kids are just so much better than the other 40 kids and should be playing both ways. It's simply not true. Every team has top talent, but its the ones that figure out how to get the most out of the just above average players that Win. I'll take a fresh average talent player over a tired, over-played stud any day. I'm not really talking about full platooning necessarily, but more minimizing the number of players that go both ways and especially how much time they play both.

From the thread that VOR started I am learning that full platooning is certainly the exception, but I have to believe that there are very teams in 5A and 6A that are playing more than a few players two ways. Even the best small school programs minimize full-time two-way starters.
