Are you calling me a Conservative??????:sssh:
Happens to blacks a lot. One of the more common incidents of racism against blacks. I have to agree with Jim. You guys are making excuses for this behavior. If it wasn't racist why did they apologize?

They heard she had her own bible.

Media Fall for Race Hoax? Swiss Clerk Brands Oprah a Liar

Keep in mind...Switzerland's motto is "avoid conflict". :lol2: The article above is a worth read. For the record, Oprah lost credibility with me in 2008, and I no longer pay any attention to her. She is getting closer and closer to Divaland.

She's already jumped that shark...one day on her show she and John Travolta got so engrossed with their conversation about how great it was to be ultra-wealthy they seem to forget they were filming a television program. They went on and on talking about the luxuries they enjoy that they know no one watching the show is ever going to enjoy, it was if she was rubbing her wealth in her viewers faces that day.

Oprah also tried to once claim that her DNA went back to the Zulu tribe in Africa but i think that later came back to be false. If the clerks version of this story is true, then she and what she was trying to say is disgusting. There are bigger problems and real problems out there without Oprah trying to drum up sympathy for herself with a story such as this.

This is the kind of defense I expect to see when one is falsely accused of racism. If the clerk is telling the truth then I feel bad for her being lied about and used by Oprah in such a horrible fashion but also for her store owner and country for not defending her as well. She's totally defenseless.

And I don't really know what was said, but I spend a lot of time in Europe on business. Many Europeans speak very good English, BUT their true understanding of what they said and/or how they said it or how it would be construed, is far away from how a native speaker would interpret in many situations. And that is not a criticism, because I respect that many more Europeans speak English than we speak their language. However, one needs to take this into account when communicating with someone in a language that is not their native language. Diversity works both ways Oprah!!

Harpo. Wonder how she'd have taken a fat joke?

Being accused of racism and being accused of child molesting are the two "crimes" that the accused is assumed guilty until proven innocent and IMVHO people who wrongly accuse someone of racism are every bit as slimey and someone who would wrongly accuse someone of molestation.

The bag was quoted by the store owner to be 38,000 Swiss francs. That's over $40K American.

Thank God Mrs. S didn't see it. :scared:

When I first saw Oprah telling this story on TV, my first thought was racism. I do believe racism still exists in this world.

Then my husband said to me, "if you walked in that store, do you think they would let you look at that purse?" The answer would be definitely be no. I am a white woman who dresses casually on or off vacation. I was once followed around a Hermes store and made to feel so uncomfortable that I left. In truth, I couldn't afford anything in there, nor would I pay that kind of money if I could.

Oprah is an actress. I have no doubt that if she entered with her entourage in celebrity style, she would have been treated like a queen. As an actress, she could have presented herself in a lot of different ways. People judge others on appearances other than race also. I have traveled quite a bit to other countries, and believe me, just being American may have been a reason to be snubbed.

After giving it some thought, I find it overly coincidental that this horrible act of racism happened right before her new movie came out.

SHe was so offended and felt discriminated against, yet she waits almost 2 weeks to convey the story. Conveniently during a press interview about a movie she is promoting that is about racism and discrimination. I call Bullcrap.

I am boycotting her movie.

I am disappointed in Oprah. I always thought she was above attention seeking and sensationalizing herself. She never had to. She was just that good.

I guess when you slip out of the limelight and you get a chance to get back in the limelight, you tend to desperately exagerate events for a good story.

I do believe that racism exists. It makes me ashamed of those that show racism, and I feel sorry for the victims of racism. But stories like this benefit nobody. On the surface, Oprah's story takes us one step forward in racism awareness, but her method takes us all 2 steps back.
