Greg Oden signs with Miami

Featured Replies

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he doesn't play over 15 games this year.

Drafted in 2007.

Has played 82 games total.

If healthy it could be a great deal for Miami, but that is a really big if.

Just don't see him being on the court enough to matter.

Or a full NBA regular season. Crazy.

Low risk, high reward IMO. I'm going to assume they are paying him the league minimum considering his knee problems so if he doesn't play, it won't hurt them much in the wallet and they still have plenty on the roster to compete and win more NBA championships. However, if he CAN play (and thats a big if) it will only benefit the heat and give the a much more solid interior presence. Much more than Bosh at least...

Good move by Riley and the Heat.

He hasn't played in four years but he's only 25. How long has he been cleared to play?

Just more than half of what Sam Bowie played in a similar time frame.

I'm rooting for him to have some success.

If he stays reasonably healthy and puts up say, 12/8/2 points, boards, blocks it will have been a resounding success.

Has he been fully cleared to play?

Interesting fact. The combined age of LeBron and Oden is 103.

Is that all?

Great move for both. Oden doesn't have to feel rushed to come in and play right away, and Miami can bring him along slowly. They will make the playoffs and likely compete for the number one seed regardless. They can keep him out until late in the season and gradually work him into the lineup before the playoffs. If they watch his minutes he may be available to them in the playoffs and he would be the big man they have been thirsting for. If it doesn't work, oh well your not losing anything.

That's why Miami was a perfect spot for him, same for SA. Any other team would likely rush him Into the lineup hoping he could be the savior. Miami can just let him work his way into being ready.
