I am not talking about one at bat today. I am talking overall. And it isn't easy. Votto is the one of the best hitters in baseball and he has a game plan every AB. He just didn't get it done today. Neither did Phillips. Plus Melancon is a ground ball pitcher.

Sure was a hot one down at the ol' ballpark today. Shame that the Reds couldn't pull out the win.

For those following MJ's vending, this Friday night was the best I've ever done, until today. Set a new personal best for one game, new personal best for a three game series.

Hope the Reds put together a strong West Coast trip.

Just a poor situational hitting team. 98 game sample size says enough...

Agree. Also think their philosophy at the plate may need a rethink. It's darn near excruciating to watch this team at the moment.

I feel a trade coming. Jocketty is not one to sit idley and watch. Ludwick isn't back for near a month and can't really be counted on for this year. There is no other offensive help available and this team needs help. If Robinson could stay healthy, I would put him in left field, bat him 2nd and roll with that. I like what I see out of him, but he can't stay healthy. A trade is coming.

Is it just me or are more and more people buying standing room only tickets or are plain just not sitting in their seats because of the heat or who you are sitting by? When I go to games with friends my age or by myself never spend more than the $7-10 for outer view, just would rather stand or walk around and watch the game from different views which are usually better than any seat unless you are behind the dugout or VIP,etc.

Love standing out at the bar in right field and watching an inning or two when I have seats in the moon deck. But Id say your hypothesis is correct. Not a bad deal, buy 7 buck seats and stand a row behind people paying 40 bucks a seat

Had a fun day today -- I don't get to go often as a fan. Sadly, it appears my jinxability showed up today. Great outing by Homer; just no help.

It's OK Jim, I got em a few weeks ago against the Mariners. Maybe if the Reds make the playoffs we can get the rest of Redsland to take up a collection to keep us (pay us off) from going to any of the games.

Ludwick says he feels good and is going on his rehab assignment Tuesday or Wednesday. Max of 20 days so I'm guessing hes back in about 2 weeks.

They said on the radio today that he will likely use the full 20 days. That makes it around August 12th before he is back. And when he gets back, I don't think anyone would expect him to be on top of his game.

Would love to hear the Dusty defenders thoughts on him leaving Homer in yesterday simply because he wanted to him to have a shot at getting a win. Brian Kenny was crushing Dusty last night. Basically asking why would a manager put an individual statistic over what's best for the team winning a game....

He is so terrible at understanding every single mathematical statistic that helps teams win games it isn't even funny anymore. He's only good at backing his guys and giving them a chance. He's awful. Anyone who says otherwise needs to re-evaluate.

"It's not called walking, it's called hitting," Baker said, and that sound you just heard was a sabermetrician slapping his forehead. "You're trying to get a hit."

"I wanted to give Homer a chance to win the game," Baker said. "People don't understand, but it doesn't matter to me because I'm going to do what I think is right for my team and right for him. It's tough to go out there and get a no-decision or a loss the way he's throwing the ball. I can see a level of frustration on his face down there that we haven't gotten him any runs."

Those two quotes from the last two months should get him fired...

"People don't understand, but it doesn't matter to me because I'm going to do what I think is right for my team and right for him."

That is what has me fired up and ready to rant for 4 hours this afternoon. Those two things aren't one in the same you idiot...

Exactly. Doing right by the player and the team in some instances are totally opposite. Trying to do right by the player yesterday was not doing the team any favors at all. The hitting not walking quote to me is far worse though. Does he really not understand the importance of OBP? He can't be that dumb can he?
