Based on what? Have you met a large percentage or are you judging the majority based on the few you have met? Even worse are you judging the majority based on a few articles/videos on the Internet?

As knowing a lot, I'll say it's closer to 5%. Just cause a officer doesn't take smart mouthing from young adults, doesn't mean they are power tripping.

 

You are/were a cop. Your opinion is obviously going to be different than mine. Has nothing to do with people smart mouthing them. Many officers have a sense of entitlement, arrogance, and overall negative attitude towards the public. That's just my opinion, based on my encounters and those of my friends and family.

Based on my personal experiences, those of my friends and family. I've met/dealt with WAY more than a few. My Dad was a fire fighter for 21 years, and his colleagues and him shared the same sentiments. You don't have to be a tool just because you're a cop. We are all grateful for the service they provide, but that doesn't entitle them to be rude. Again, JMO.

A group of state Alcoholic Beverage Control agents clad in plainclothes approached her, suspecting the blue carton of LaCroix sparkling water to be a 12-pack of beer. Police say one of the agents jumped on the hood of her car. She says one drew a gun. Unsure of who they were, Daly tried to flee the darkened parking lot.

 

Let's assume she was underage and carrying beer. This would still be insane.

Some of the many problems I have with the situation as it was described...

 

1.) Seven agents, all managed to be close enough to her to determine that she was potentially underage...but, none of them were able to see that what she bought was not actually alcohol? I mean, if you're in that particular business, shouldn't you be especially knowledgeable in what packaging the product you're monitoring comes in?

 

2.) Seven agents, all were able to surround her car...but, none of them were able to stop/talk to her before she got in it? Were they all just sitting in a van with a set of binoculars waiting for someone to come out of the store? If so, that sort of defeats the whole purpose of being in plain clothes doesn't it?

 

3.) At what point in time does buying alcohol illegally warrant the drawing of your gun? Surely it's more than walking to your vehicle and getting in it.

 

4.) Getting on the hood of someone's car? See #3.

 

5.) If you're fearful that a suspect may flee the scene, and you have a car with lights/flashers...why wouldn't you use it when approaching the suspect in the first place? Why would you only use it in pursuit?

 

 

I'm actually surprised that someone else didn't call the cops on these guys. Can you imagine seeing 7 people around a car, including one on the hood, yelling at the people inside, and then see a gun? Across the parking lot, it may look like a car jacking or mugging.

It's not back handed. I am grateful for police and the work they do. That still doesn't give them the right to be rude and disrespectful in my book.

This is so true! Power trippers can be found anywhere. Just because you go into law enforcement, it doesn't automatically make you some kind of sociopath. Those who suggest such nonsense are usually those who have had their share of difficulty abiding by the law...and paid the price for it.

I don't want to put words into his mouth, but I'm willing to bet that Deuce or some of his friends or family have probably experienced more scrutiny and unfair treatment from some law enforcement officers than a lot of us would even care to imagine. And not for anything they have done, but for reasons that are beyond their control. If true, I would say that goes a long way towards how he feels about law enforcement.
