This kind of stuff happens all the time, it is just we do not hear about it as we hear about the celebrity ones. I recall a buddy of mine telling a story that a woman brought her child to the clinic Female. The mom said the hospital named the child for her. She pronounced it Fe-maly. Said when they brought the baby to the room there was a pink card with Female written on it as the babies name - so that is the name the child was given. Also, an article I recalled seeing a while back listed these gems:
