I wonder what that breaks down to per hour, minimum wage?

Our district doesn't pay anywhere near that. Head coaching pay is competitive with Highlands, but my pay is about 1/3 of what their assistants make.

I venture to say, it is the coaches doing it, but it's an additional salary - a way of paying the coaches more with not saying the coaching salary is larger.

I don't know if Highlands pays more or has more paid staff; however I think it is important to remember the number of kids involved at Highlands has to make it one of the largest programs in the state, which would require more resources.

I understand. I'm at a school that does not have football. I know they have several assistants but I was surprised to see that many paid spots.

And it probably qualifies them for credit under the Texas Teachers Pension, if there is one.

 

For some reason, I am thinking the position has a 401K or 457 K benefit attached and not a part of a pension program.

That's way more than I was ever paid at our County school as an Assistant, not even remotely close. Overall staff salary total is less than 1/2 of the $61,000. Wow!

Is that all??? When you think about how much time these coaches commit to this program, $61K is just a drop in the bucket. No one is getting rich off the program, that's for sure! If you say you wouldn't pay an extra $9K for Dale Mueller to come coach your football team, you are crazy! Just sayin'

I guess that's why HHS has outstanding assistant coaches.

When his time comes to leave, it will be for a recliner and TV, nothing else.

I noticed in the thread about the Highlands football scoreboard that the link to the board meeting also listed pay levels for all coaches above their teaching or other admin duties.

 

Highlands for example pays: Head Coach $9202, 5 Asst Coaches $6567 ea, freshman coach $6567, frosh asst $4277, 4 Sixty Minute Club $1464 ea and 2 Sixty minute Club at $732 plus a team manager $1464. For a total of over $61,000 in just salaries. How does this compare to other schools?

 

Not picking on or at HHS it's just that their pay was readily available.

There is another thread going on right now talking about coaching integrity and morals and who's name shows up as one of the guys that does it right and would never cheat a player or game but Dale's name.

 

This is why anyone questioning these minimal salaries should lobby for their coaching staffs to make more money based on how Dale does it. He not only teaches the kids the game of football but the game of life.

 

This is why Highlands is Highlands and Dale gets it and his kids get it.

 

FWIW, all of those assist coaches get it too, especially the equipment manager.

I agree. With that said, I will disagree with some who think the money is too much.

 

I don't think it matters how much or little you pay your coaches, there are a ton of coaches out there who would love to just have the chance to be a head coach for any high school program, money doesn't matter. If someone thinks they deserve more, there is always someone else willing to step into their position and take over.

If the Highlands $'s are correct (which I have no reason to doubt) that's about double (actually a little more than double) what Kenton County Schools football coaches make (including the middle school program). You can view the whole Supplemental Salary schedule on the finance page of the Kenton County Schools website. While head coaching salaries are similar, Highland's assistants are well paid. Honestly, I'm not sure how many coaches are in it for just the money. Even at almost $10k a year for a head coach, for the time and work they put in, what they make is peanuts.
