Don't forget that the HHS football teams, including the freshman, take charter busses to all their games. Who's funding that expense? No surprise they pay their coaches much more than other programs.

 

For districts with buses, someone has to pay for the school buses to take them to the games. When you look at the actual costs there is not much difference between the two. I know that for longer trips we use charters because it is the relatively same costs but more comfortable.

This is true doubledeuce. We were planning a wrestling trip to the midwest 3 years ago and taking a charter bus (from what it would cost to pay for a driver and mileage for a county school bus) was actually going to be significantly cheaper.

Parents/supporters of HHS fund this themselves. I received my letter last week. Between organized parties and donations all transporation is covered.

Organized parties? I've never heard of that before. Honestly not trying to troll but I would love to hear more about those. Sounds like an interesting way to fund raise. It also makes me think of FNL.

Boosters or whoever I think it's a pretty smart thing. Even more so when you think about how close knit that community is.

Exactly.. I know there are coaches who coach at Ryle and do it for free. They help make men of boys and teach them the greatest life lessons any sport can give. I applaud all the coaches from peewee and up. I know I learned more about character and life from my coaches on the football field than anywhere else. Thank you Coaches for all you do.

It's not just W's/L's. Judge a coaching staff by the quality of the young men on there teams.

Let me elaborate. See we are spoiled here in the suburbs. Our kids graduate, no real violence or crime. Show me a coach in the inner city, that his team struggles, loses games, but his kids are graduating, staying out of trouble, not getting killed. That's the kind of coach I want. Mentors! Winning is great. It's a GAME. I'd rather my kid be on a losing team and he learn thru adversity from other men that you keep driving forward no matter what. Now granted you can learn this from winning also. Some coaches are about W's/L's, like some parents. As a former athlete and parent of a athlete I know what's more important.
