Boone had a real good receiver, they were called Ends back in the day, that went on to play at North Carolina. Would have played maybe 1970 71???? Can't recall the name but how about a Boone WR getting a D1 scolly.

I have too agree it was the 87/88 team that was the best and the best Rb on that team was Jon Smith hands down!! Fyi I played on that team and we crushed Shelly Co.earlier in the season!!

The 94 team was very good, beat Elder and lost in state finals. They were led by the best BC player ever in Shaun Alexander. One of he best ever in NKY history period.

 

The 87 team was better. Too big and physical for the 94 team, and too many weapons in the backfield. Ransdell, Smith, and Law in the backfield and Dinn at qb, they had so many guys that could run.

 

Beat Shelby County 28-0 late in the regular season, lost to them a month later in the state finals. One of the bigger high school football upsets I remember. The 87 Boone team is the best team ever from NKY not to win a state title IMO.

 

Not going to list my top three, as I just can't cut it to only three. I will throw one name out there that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet; Brandon Black.

 

He was a better baseball player, but Black was a really good football player on a couple really good Boone teams.

I am a huge fan of Brian Mainey ... I feel like he belongs in the "Underrated" thread more than here.

Irv Goode played at UK, then was a first-round draft pick by the St. Louis football Cardinals in '62. He played 12 or 13 years in the NFL and, I believe, won a Super Bowl ring late in his career with the Dolphins. He played in two Pro Bowls. I'd put Goode and Alexander way at the top of this list.

 

He was on the Undefeated Team if memory serves and the the Super Bowl VIII Champions as well. It was later in his career.

His number also was retired by UK, I believe. Irv Goode was the best lineman ever to come out of Northern Kentucky.

Put me with Sandman and the others, I will take 1987 Boone over any other Boone team ever, not even close.

I was young but I did see and later hear many stories about the 87 team. They were special. The 94 team was my favorite game I ever played in.

Maybe it was my imagination but it always seemed like those Owen Hauck Rebel squads were huge. I found it fascinating that every other year they were pumping out stud RBs. Who was the RB that had a great Jr season then moved? This would have been around the Alexander years.

Herron wasn't the same player post ACL.

That was his junior season when he tore his ACL... He came back his senior with a state semi final appearance and over 2k in rushing yards as well!
