Coach Cal is ready for the One and Done rule to change

Featured Replies

I do also think the one and done rule has helped cut down cheating from coaches to get recruits.

Still more than enough rampant cheating going on...

With so many kids thinking they should be one and done now, if one year rule went away what would recruiting look like?

Let's say the One Year rule was out and kids could go straight to the NBA.

Harrisons...probably go

Randle...gone

Johnson...7 footers don't grow on trees, mat try to go straight to the NBA

That's four players that UK may have signed early that at the last minute could have declared for the NBA. Wiggans, Parker and Gordan would all probably go as well, recruiting would completely change.

Aren't the NCAA's hands tied on this? Why can they do? They can't keep players from jumping to the NBA after one year if they want to jump. I guess they could state if you declare for the NBA then you can't come back, but what else can they do?

Like I said before, give kids incentives for coming back. For them, enough money to the point it will be able to hold them over a year.

I think it should be the none and done but I think they might go to the baseball rule, either out of HS or locked in for X number of years.

Kind of what I thought too.

Cal may not even have recruited some of those guys seriously if it appeared apparent they would jump. This is not a new thing, that's how it used to be. Did anyone even bother recruiting guys like LeBron? You may put some feelers out there, but with a great many of the players, the coaches knew they weren't coming and simply looked elsewhere.

This is how it should be IMO.

Co-sign. A one or two year rule, while beneficial to UK, is a detriment to these players IMO. If they are good enough to get paid millions of dollars to play right away, they should be able to do so. There's no reason Nerlens should have torn his ACL for nothing.

I can handle that and truthfully that may be the best thing to do. If you aren't good enough to go right away then keep them in college for at least 2 years IMO.

This is what I would like to see. I think that anymore than 2 years will cause kids to look at the European and Asian leagues as an alternative to the NCAA's due to pay and lack of classes.

I think a kid should be able to make the jump from high school if he wants. I think that, as long as he doesn't hire an agent, he should be able to go to college if he doesn't like his draft pick also.

He doesn't like it like the Yankees haven't liked free agency the last 40 years.

How does everyone feel about a basketball minor league? Make the "D" league more like a minor league and just let kids go when they want to go. Add a 3rd, maybe even a 4th round to the NBA draft; tell the NBA to develop their own players; make college less professional and more collegiate. That is what I would like to see.

I like the thought. Great thought and great idea. It would ruin college basketball though. It would become glorified intramurals.

Put in a requirement like they have in football - if you sign up for college, you have to stay 2 or 3 years. Make that part of your letter of intent with a big penalty if the player tries to leave. College might actually become better if you do that. You wouldn't get the one and done star players but those guys on the cusp would be forced to stay and there would be more connection between players, schools and fans.
