Coach Cal is ready for the One and Done rule to change

Every time I have heard Cal speak about this, he has always said he doesn't like the one and done rule. However, it is what it is and he is going to try to bring in the best talent in the country. It's not his rule he just does a better job of taking advantage of it.

The NBA put this rule into effect because it was in their best interest. The NCAA needs to do what is in it's best interest. Letting these kids come to college for one year may be it. Personally I don't really care. If they change nothing ok, if they put a rule like baseball has fine to.

Does it need to be changed, if so what should the new rule be?

The NFL rule is 3 years past your HS graduation class. I'm don't know if the NCAA should go that direction with basketball or not but that is an option.

I like it.

Sow how many other Major D1 coaches now grow a set and come out and agree with Calipari that colleges might want to separate from the NCAA. So who steps up?

Nothing really new, he's always stated he doesn't like the rule but as long as it's in place he's going to utilize it.

It used to be none and done if you were good enough.

This is how it should be IMO.

I think Cal is more of a casualty of the rule. I do think he takes advantage of the rule. It is what it is. All coaches should be going after the top talent. Cal just lands it. Why wouldn't he want that talent around every year? The fact that there are new faces are a testament to the rule and makes it a little easier for him to get that talent yearly. I think he's better served if they have to stay for more than a year or two.

If it goes back to none and done, or changes from one and done....Cal will lose some of his hold on recruiting....I think he has figured this type of recruiting out more than anyone.

I think what Cal is saying is that the NCAA needs to essentially pay these kids into staying one more year. If the NBA doesn't change the rule then give these kids incentives to come back and continue to grow athletically and academically. I love the idea. Pay a kid enough to get by for the next year, and hopefully cash in on that investment by improving the draft stock by staying another year. Also it still gives guys like Noel and Davis who are sure 1 picks the ability to leave after the first year.

I do also think the one and done rule has helped cut down cheating from coaches to get recruits. Instead of bidding against the NBA to get players to come to your school you just have to go against other schools.

NCAA is powerless on the One and Done rule, NBA has to change through collective bargaining.
