All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body." What constitutes sexual immorality? It's a subjective phrase, so how do we determine what it entails, especially as cultural norms and mores are constantly changing?

Spindoc... some people can make valid logical points. It's annoying when the response to a valid logical point avoids answering it and consistently goes on to add more illogical thoughts and invalid comments to it. UKMustangFan made an incredibly valid logical point about how Bible quoters appear to be selective, all the while claiming they believe every word of it. How are we to buy their Bible quotes if they're obviously inconsistent and hypocritical about it? That's a valid question... which you did everything in your will to avoid answering. Downright annoying if you ask me... and illogical.

There are Old Testament teachings repeated in the New Testament. Some of them are directly quoted by Jesus & he even raises the bar on some of them.

 

Homosexuality was considered sinful & punishable by death in the Old Testament. The sinful part is echoed in the New Testament; but the punishable by death part isn't.

 

I don't deny that Christians sometimes put forth an inconsistent argument when quoting Scripture. If not inconsistent, then there are certainly passages that some emphasize much more than others. As I've said, Christians are adamant & quick to point out passages that clearly condemn homosexuality. They do not, however, seem as eager to highlight heterosexual immorality.

I've had countless people give me that same wake up call in the past. And to be honest, I'll probably have to receive that same reminder again because I too have been guilty of picking & choosing. It's a lot easier to highlight a specific Scripture when you see someone living in contradiction of it. It's more difficult to highlight it when you are the one contradicting it.

And that's part of the problem. At no point in the Bible does the laundry list come out, and that's why it's hard to take that as the law. Does God at some point start putting check marks on the list?

anal sex -- yes, but only if it's two guys

polygamy -- nope, that's in there a bunch, and OK

bestiality -- not sure if there's a reference to that, but I don't recall it

hetero, but non-missionary positions -- Catholics say yes, but I'm skeptical
