April 22, 201313 yr I understand the want to have a child, but knowing the situation she was in at ND, why couldn't her partner have the child instead of her? But anyways, congrats to Nicole, great coach, great person, and will be a phenomenal mother. I first thought the same thing. But then realized that it could be a complicated and long list of medical and personal reasons. I wish Nicole a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby.
April 22, 201313 yr So let me ask this, say she's not gay, and single, no husband, mid thirties and decides she wants to have a child through AI. Still Wrong? Im sure NDA would think so right? and they would fire her right? Thoughts? I feel like I remember hearing about a teacher in Ohio who was single and decided she wanted to have a child, but was not married. And I believe, yes, they fired her.
April 22, 201313 yr I was raised Catholic, and I admit to having issues with my faith. I know private schools can do as they like, but whatever happened to forgiveness (not that I think there is anything to forgive)? What ever happened to hate the sin, but love the sinner ( not that I believe anyone has sinned)? Could she have kept her job if she had an abortion? It is ok to be gay, but not pregnant? In my day most pregnant young girls were asked to leave school. Fortunately that has stopped. These students now attend school, even through a single pregnant young lady in Catholic school makes the good sisters uncomfortable. I don't understand why good teachers and coaches are judged so harshly. What would Jesus do?
April 23, 201313 yr Did NDA in any way profit from MTV filming 16 and pregnant at their school? They filmed 16 and Pregnant there? When was this?
April 23, 201313 yr Author Did NDA in any way profit from MTV filming 16 and pregnant at their school? Not monetarily.
April 23, 201313 yr Not monetarily. Clyde, are you saying NDA profited in another way from the MTV show?
April 23, 201313 yr It's a shame that such high academic institutions make decisions that can negatively affect their student body/athletes based on beliefs from 2000+ years ago. I understand that they fully believe they are making the best decision for their kids. I just don't agree with it.

And she signed a contract knowing full well this was a stipulation stating that this would happen
April 24, 201313 yr She is pregnant... and i guess at notre dame you cannot be gay, pregnant and coach. It's very sad... Because the AD is gay too.. As stated in the BB thread. Cafeteria Catholics want to pick and choose what they want to and that doesnt sit well with the true Fish Eaters, no pun intended. Got to maintain some consistency and when one wants to try and change they basically just start another denomination....Been happening for something like 2000 yrs.

That is the essence of the curriculum. You sign up to teach, then you sign up to live the Catholic life. Man or woman.

Totally understand your points, however it doesnt fit the Catholic School curriculum. You could start the "Crash Davis Church of Its Not Fair" and you would probably have a pretty good following in this day and age.
June 4, 201313 yr Author For those that are/were close to this situation is it your understanding that it was NDA's call to have Nicole leave? Or was it Nicole's call?
