April 19, 201313 yr Should be interesting to see who gets the job. They have 4 starters coming back... That really depends on who they get for a coach. All the starters have strong ties to other sports and are crushed by the NDA Decision to remove Nicole. Not to mention the lack of support they received during state tourney run from the administration.
April 19, 201313 yr Given the administration's acceptance of a Gay Athletic Director and Nicole's success, NDA could be very vulnerable to litigation here.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with "gay". I would bet it's more of a "pregnant without being married". I have a good friend that was a single mom and had her child out of wedlock. She sent her child to catholic schools, but felt pressure and prejudice the entire time because of her situation. She eventually moved her child. There are other instances that I know of where coaches were let go because of the "pregnacy out of wedlock" issue. Not catholic schools either. It's a morale issue for schools. It sucks, but I do understand the position of the school. Not that I agree one way or the other, just understand. Good luck to Nicole and ND. Tough situation. A situation that should be exciting for her is now an issue.
April 19, 201313 yr Someone will mention Dick Maile for this job in 3, 2, ....... Or that he will be helping Schrand at HC even sooner
April 20, 201313 yr Author There are FAR worse coaches that schools can have than a gay, pregnant coach that truly cares about the team! You are correct, my friend, but it certainly raises some interesting questions when it involves a Catholic school. I guess some "sins" are worse than others in the eyes of the diocese and NDA.
April 20, 201313 yr Author Given the administration's acceptance of a Gay Athletic Director and Nicole's success, NDA could be very vulnerable to litigation here. I'm not sure where the litigation would come but , more interesting to me, why is "gay" capitalized?
April 20, 201313 yr Thought this was 2013....not 1913. It is and at a Public school, this wouldnt happen as readily. However, Catholic schools have the right to hold their teachers and administrators to a high standard when it comes to living according to Catholic Dogma. Teachers and admin know that going in.
April 20, 201313 yr Author So, if she is gay I'm assuming this pregnancy was by AI? I would assume that to be true. BTW congrats to her and her partner. I get NDA's stance but I also get that a woman wants to have a child.

Agreed. However, they set themselves up when they draw a line as to what "sin" is acceptable and what is not.
April 20, 201313 yr Thought this was 2013....not 1913. Can't get mad at the church for not changing with the times on this issue.
April 20, 201313 yr So .....Are they going to let go every Male Coach in the Catholic Schools who have an out of wedlock child. Maybe that needs to be part of the interview process. " Do you are or are you planning on having an out of wedlock child" and while you're at it " What is your stand on abortion"?
April 20, 201313 yr Agreed. However, they set themselves up when they draw a line as to what "sin" is acceptable and what is not. Sort of. Being gay isn't a sin, acting on it is. If that AD is caught doing PDA, with another chick and isnt fired, then I agree.

" Do you are or are you planning on having an out of wedlock child" and while you're at it " What is your stand on abortion"? To be consistent, they would have to. Would they? Very good question.
