It happens and I think all parties involved handled it very well. Unfortunate that the umpire missed the call which ended the game, but there's no guarantee that the right call would have won TB the game.

In this thread alone: 2 stated he should be fired 1 recommends a suspension 1 actually states he should be executed 1 calls for the umpire's boss to release an official statement even after the umpire admitted his mistake. He should never set foot on a baseball diamond again, at least not as an umpire. Can't wait to hear how baseball defends this one. That ump should be fired. Worst call I've ever seen. I actually can't believe Zobrist and Maddon stayed as calm as they did. I would have went ballistic. I don't know if you fire him, but he may need to sit a couple games for that. Of course with the way most officiating is judged by the leagues, he'll probably be behind the plate for Game 1 of the World Series. He lost sight of the ball because he was inside and assumed it was a strike. Never good to assume anything an MLB pitcher throws is straight. Way too much movement. He should be executed.
