Crash was kidding. There are only 2 that called for his head.
April 9, 201313 yr I'm surprised so many people are calling for the umpire's head. Obviously it was a poor call, but he owned up to it and admitted his mistake. It happens and I think all parties involved handled it very well. Unfortunate that the umpire missed the call which ended the game, but there's no guarantee that the right call would have won TB the game. It's inexcusable at the professional level. If I screw up at my place of employment, I can be fired for it. He should be no different. I don't feel like I'm exaggerating when I say a 10 year tee-ball umpire could've gotten that call right. He has no business working on the most elite stage of his profession, if he's going to screw up that badly.

There are blown calls all the time. I think you're overreacting.

Not at all....If he isn't sharp enough, in real time, to determine that that pitch is a ball, he has no business being out there. Of course after the fact and seeing it on replay he's going to say it was a ball. That doesn't make up for the fact that he screwed up majorly, and potentially cost a team a game.

Of course with the way most officiating is judged by the leagues, he'll probably be behind the plate for Game 1 of the World Series. Phil Cuzzi 's strike call on Jim Edmonds -- I believe in Game 5 or 6 of 2005 NLDS Cards vs. Astros -- was worse. When Edmonds sanely questioned the strike call of a ball near his neck, Cuzzi threw him out of the game in the middle of his at bat. Cuzzi has since worked playoff series, perhaps even a World Series.

Cuzzi has since worked playoff series, perhaps even a World Series. Cuzzi also blew a fair/foul call in a 6 man crew a few years ago as the left field umpire. It was not even a line drive; simple pop up that landed 8 inches off the line and he blew it. Day in and day out he is much worse than Marty Foster.
