I would imagine lots of perspiring and use of pepto. But yes I agree I'm sure it's rather tense around there right now.

My plan is short and sweet, Let's blow them off the map! Destroy them entirely, what if our defense mechanism fails? The threat is a good enou reason for me to say lets wipe them out totally.

When you command your military with a finger in the air, you usually get it shot off. I don't see us doing anything without eliciting world opinion, first. We've been fiddle farting around with Afganistan for almost 12 flippin' years, getting good men and women killed, because God forbid we get some bad press. Regardless of what NK does and how much the US public beat their chests, any response will be measured.

Much easier said than done because now several countries, including the one we would be attacking, have the bomb.

 

One thing is for sure here, if I am North Korea no way I do all this sabre rattling unless I can hit the US on the US mainland, even if it is with a suitcase nuke.

Exactly! At that time we were basically the only ones with this capability. It's also one of the reasons the Cold War got so tense is because the Soviets had developed their nuclear capabilities. Now numerous countries have that capability and one blast could be all it takes to start a world wide nuclear fire fight. Not good......

If the US nukes North Korea, there won't be a North Korea left to counter. And that's what I would aim to accomplish if I'm making the decisions.

I think Russia would be the one that would be more of the problem. From everything I've seen, China is getting quite annoyed with North Korea's antics. They realized they have a pretty good thing going right now and are getting annoyed with NK potentially screwing it up.

Exactly. And NOBODY is going to use nuclear weapons. Even if they nuke us we're not going to use nuclear weapons in retaliation because we don't have to. Those weapons are hellfire packed in metal and we're simply not going to use them on a dinky little place like North Korea. We can eliminate their ability to wage war with a fleet of bombers equipped with conventional weapons.

 

I don't know what Kim's endgame is here, but my hunch is that he's simply consolidating power and trying to appear tough. When the time comes, he won't deploy because he and his military know it'll be a complete disaster.

We may fight NK because they are threating us, how about Iran, they threaten us and Israel all the time. Why is Obama afraid to take on the Iranians.

They've been threatening to destroy the US and S. Korea for more than twenty years now and have never tried it, so I imagine there is some degree of non-suicidal rationality at play there. I also believe their elite are educated outside of Korea, so they are aware of the disparities and the role their totalitarianism plays in keeping the population in line despite abject poverty and famines.
