April 2, 201313 yr Minnesota is not exactly a drop whatever your doing job; I just can't see letting Tubby (like him or not) go and probably downgrading your program. Personally I would have wanted something for sure from Coach Smart before making this move. That seemed to be their target but it did not happen - very strange. I still remember Saul trying to win the last game he played for his father almost single handily. And spoke with Donna Smith when the Gophers were staying the same hotel in Bloomington. She noticed the Lexington logos of our travel hockey team. Very nice, very gracious. Best wishes for the Smith family.
April 2, 201313 yr Tech must have a thing for ex UK coaches. BCG, OTS and Leach. I want to see Tubby sporting a stetson. Don't forget James Dickey, assistant under Eddie Sutton, who had some success at Texas Tech during the mid-90s.
April 2, 201313 yr I would venture that Tubby will have more success at TTU. Should be easier to recruit there. And, the quality of coaching in the Big 12 is no where near the quality of coaching in the B1G.
April 2, 201313 yr So, if they fired Tubby bc they were "so sure" that they could get S. Smart and then got turned down then imo that's hilarious.:thumb: :lol2: :lol2:

It is in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, I could just hear a recruiting pitch to a kid from another area of the country......"Hey son, want to go where the ice doesn't thaw until May? We also are privliged enough that we share facilities with the great Minnesota hockey team, they make up for not giving a crap about basketball by getting you great seats at the hockey and football games. Minnesota also will stretch the rules for you and provide you with insulated gloves, hats and jock straps, we take care of our young men!! "

April 3, 201313 yr Congratulations to Orlando Smith. He has managed to get someone else to pay him millions. Tubby has made a fortune going to schools that will accept his mediocre results for 6 to 10 years. He has to be the smartest man in all of coaching.

April 4, 201313 yr :ohbrother: What does that mean? I said he is the smartest man in coaching. Think about it he will earn $1.8 to coach and get another $2 million to quit. It's pure genius.
April 4, 201313 yr Does cold weather really matter that much to people in recruiting? Lubbock is awful and Minneapolis is awesome.
April 4, 201313 yr Lubbock is a lot warmer than Minnesota. That is about the only difference. It is in the middle of nowhere. I would bet that there is a lot more talent in the state of Texas than there is in the state of Minnesota.
