Biggest upsets in high school football ever

Featured Replies

I don't think so. Trinity was playing MUCH better in November than they played in September. X peaked in September. I won't claim that I predicted the Trinity win, but I did think it would be a close game.

To answer the question of the thread, Trinity 18 x 7 in 1966.

TA, I have to disagree with on that statement. We beat badly a pretty darn good Warren Central team in the semi's (62-12), we just beat a very good Manual team fairly handily (33-18) in the second round. We had one lack of focus game against JH, but I believe we were peaking at the right time. I believe state final result was a little bit above a mild upset.

^ nah...not in that game.

X was undefeated, nationally ranked, had beaten like 6 of top 8 teams in the state, and beat the Rocks by a land-slide earlier in the year. X was favored to win this game and threads right here on BGP gave the Rocks little chance.

I would say that was an upset....anytime you are not expected to win and you do....is an upset.

There is nothing wrong or demeaning to say that Trinity's win was an upset...in fact....it makes it a much bigger win considering they were suppose to lose. It says a lot about the character and fight of that team.

It is demeaning to X...they were supposed to win yet another blowout and didn't...they got out-played...Take pride in that! You should!

What about Boone County over Trinity in the 2004 season

In 1950, BGHS was in the midst of one of its hottest streaks to date, mauling Morganfield 74-14, F-S (@ Franklin) 65-0, Owensboro 7-6, and Hopkinsville 51-0, and losing to eventual AP State #2 Russellville 20-13. Well, the O-boro game was not a mauling, but they had yet another outstanding team that year!

Next season, BGHS is rolling along all winning except for a tie with Madisonville and in the WKC catbird seat. Then the Wildcats of Franklin-Simpson show up and burst the Purples' pretty balloon 20-13 at Western Stadium!! It was the 'Cat's first ever win over the Purples after eight tries. Down here, this was so big that two successive coaches at F-S showed the game film the week of the BGHS game every year until the game film disintegrated in 1966, the very year that they dedicated the stadium (yes, against BGHS) that they occupy today!

As for BGHS 1951, they also incurred a tie with Owensboro, and they lost the WKC title in one of the tightest races ever...Murray (BGHS beat them 13-12 for Homecoming) was awarded the crown and BGHS was the bridesmaid! :irked:

In 1946, BGHS and Hopkinsville battled to a 25-all tie. Hoptown had Jerry Claiborne and a BUNCH of war veterans...!! :D Hoptown had BGHS's number almost the entire decade of the Forties...and it wasn't pretty at all!

Sorry, Boone has never beaten the Rocks. You are thinking of Dixie Heights.

Maybe the biggest one that the rest of the sate didnt know about happend this year when Sheldon Clark upset Lesile County at there home. Id say we were 20-24 point underdog and won 20-19. I dont know if it ranks with the ones listed. Ill let some of the EKY posters decide.

Lex Cath over Male in the lightening bowl was a big one!

One of the biggest upsets I've been involved in was Hancock County over Owensboro Catholic in 98. Hancock was a 3 seed, Catholic was a 1 and a state runner up the year before. The game was played at Rash Stadium in one of the best high school football atmospheres around and had a finish for the ages. Travis Atwell made big play after big play, and Hancock finally sealed it with a goal line stand at the end. Great game.

"You want me to take you back to Texas? We just got to Montana."

Upset yes. Biggest ever. Not even close.
For some.

I defintly think, IMO, one of the biggest upsets THIS YEAR in AA HAD to be Sheldon Clarks come from behind victory over Lelslie County at Hayden.

Leslie was a 4 touchdown favor, and the winner played in the regional championship.

Probably the greatest upset in Sheldon Clark history was when they pulled off the 16-15 win in OT against the Belfry Pirates for the regional championship.

And yes, He was in! :sssh: :jump:

I'm not sure one of the biggest upset but Mercer over Cessena's North Laural team. Set the tone for a great season for the dogs

Beechwood beating Cincy Acadamy of Physical Education (CAPE) in 1984.

Cape was unbeaten and featured 3 DI players who went on to spend some time in The NFL.

^ nah....we were way, WAY more physical than X, that wouldn't change after that game.

Do you really believe that if they played 10 times Trinity would physically dominate.

The Biggest upset I have ever seen is when X beat Trinity in the playoofs when Trinity had Phiefer, Murray and the Gardner brothers. Trinity had not been tested all year and X beat them in the playoffs something like 20-0.
