I don't think you penalize a team for one game in a conference tourney in this situation. Maybe you can use the conference tourney to sort out the bubble teams, but for sorting out the one and two seeds and site location, you have to consider the entire resume.

 

UL, other than their two wins over Syracuse, you have to go all they way back to November to find a top 20 team that they beat.

Even further, UL went 4-3 against the top 25 RPI while Indiana racked up 7 versus the top 25.

 

The Big10 is the better conference of the two and IU racked up some impressive road/neutral wins this year, more so than UL.

Harrell is going to be nightmarish for teams some time to come.

Congratulations Cardinal fans. My only lament is that this was the last Big East basketball game. As someone who grew up watching Louis Orr and Roosevelt Bowie at Syracuse in the 70's, Pearl Washington and Derrick Coleman in the 80's I just cannot believe those ancient rivalries with Georgetown, Seton Hall , St. Johns are all going to die. There were many years where the Big East was the premier basketball conference and you always had to wear your big boy pants to play in that league. Watching the Big East die makes me feel, well, old. Can't believe Boeheim is still coaching. He was coaching in the 70's when I was a freshman in college!

I believe this is the biggest reason people said before yesterday that IU was a lock, and presumably the overall #1 see (or in this case sent to Indianapolis). Most are caught up in UL's present run, and for good reason. But, we are told the totality of a resume is evaluated and weight is not added for how a team finishes a season.

For the record if I had a vote I would have UL #1. I bet Tom Crean was rooting for UL because they most likely would have been the #2 in the Indy region. I would have liked UL's chances.

Louisville erases big deficit to win Big East tourney title

 

NEW YORK — Syracuse had a huge lead in the second half and was in perfect position to say goodbye to the Big East with a bang.

It all slipped away so fast.

Lightning fast, like those Louisville guards.

In their final Big East appearance before bolting to the ACC next season, the 19th-ranked Orange wilted against Louisville's relentless pressure defense and squandered a 16-point advantage during a 78-61 defeat in the conference championship game Saturday night.

It was by far the biggest collapse in title game history at the Big East tournament, which began in 1980. Not exactly how longtime coach Jim Boeheim and fifth-seeded Syracuse, a conference power from beginning to end, wanted to leave.

After it was over and the Cardinals had secured their second consecutive tournament championship, Boeheim was asked what he was thinking as he walked off the court at Madison Square Garden.

"Just how badly we handled their pressure was the only thing I was thinking about, and we've got to get ready and get to the airport," said Boeheim, hardly in the mood for nostalgia.

"Those were the two thoughts I had. All of the other stuff I've been thinking about for two years, and I said it all. I'm not going to repeat it all again tonight."

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

I don't think it matters where they get seeded. Don't see anyone playing better than UL right now and that's the most important thing. Hope they keep rolling.
