Highlands has played up in the past but currently are right where they fit in.

The classes are all divided equally not by a number threshold.

Highlands avg. enrollment over a the two year period for classification was higher than the avg. enrollment for 3A. So they have a ways to go before they would be 2A.

Make sense?

We've had droughts. They would still play up. And nobody would lose their job; because playing the best is expected -- win or lose.

Well then by all means, lets make it happen now and then leave the classes alone. If enough people chose to move up, the disparity would be much less. I'm sure there are 10. 20 or 30 other schools that feel the same way. Let's try and get that done as it makes more sense than 6 classes IMO.

Is there a site that shows maybe the plan. I know the one dont show much but there maybe one that has the teams and were they may fall.

Great. The last thing Highlands would want would be to move to 2A.

As I understand the numbers on the KHSAA's site, Highlands is the 101 biggest school using the last two years' enrollment average. Assuming they keep the system the same, Highlands would remain a AAA school, although it would be one of the smaller ones (54 in a class means schools 55 - 108 are in AAA). But it is a pretty big assumption that they will keep things the same. I really expect the 6 class system to be voted into place. The majority of coaches on the coaches' advisory committee want it.

A little clarification, are they just going to split the classes into even numbers of teams or what. Just curious.

When will the vote take place? If 6 class is voted in when will it take affect?

For the record, no action has yet been taken by the KHSAA to go to 6 classes. Do I think it will eventually happen? Yes. Because the Coaches Advisory Committee was pretty heavily in favor of it and I do think the KHSAA will, assuming a compromise on Proposal 20 is reached, want to go along with the coaches' recommendation. Again, that's my guess as to what will happen. It is only my guess. I could be way off the mark. I have been before and will be so again in the future. So take it for what its worth. And assuming that it does happen, I have no idea when it will happen.

As to how the classes will be divided, my guess is it would be done the same way it is done currently, with an even number of schools in each class. That has been the accepted way of doing it in the past and my guess would be the logical starting point to begin with 6 classes.

No vote has been scheduled on this yet and I'm not sure when it will happen. I think right now folks are more focused on the Prop 20 compromise issue. Certainly if a compromise is not reached and the State Board goes along with Prop 20 (and I am not suggesting for a moment that I think they will or they won't), then switching to 6 classes becomes less likely of course.

Again, in my opinion, it just waters the championship down even more. I understand the coaches logic that it enables more teams to win championships and enables more kids to feel good about making the playoffs. I know that some coaches think it is unfair that the teams that make it to the state championships get an additional half season of football. But at what point do we cross the line of reasonableness? At what point does the self esteem issue become silly? Heck, if they want everyone to be in the playoffs, lets cut a week out of the regular season and let every team make the playoffs with the existing four classes. There will be some even bigger first round blow outs, but at least little Johnny can say his team made it to the playoffs.

And how about this for an idea: Leave the classes as they are and the playoffs as they are, and any team that does not qualify for the playoffs and each team after it is eliminated from the playoffs can continue to practice until the championship games are completed. That way the teams not in the playoffs actually get a head's up getting ready for next year on the teams still competing because the teams not in the playoffs will be practicing with next year's players while the teams still competing will be using this year's players. Maybe that would help "level the playing field".

When could we expect to see this possibly put into effect? Is there a definate time table on when this could happen?

I realize that I may be a minority, but I don't have a problem with the classes as they are. No system will ever be perfect, but if we were to win a championship now, I know what caliber of team it would take to do so. If the change takes place, I'm not so sure about that. Two years ago we had such a team and well woefully short. No shame in that, we have to play the best of the best as it is to win. In the proposed 6 class system, we would have a substantially easier time of getting to the finals and it shouldn't be. Not everyone can make it, which makes the pursuit of getting there and winning it, all the more gratifying. The good thing for me, is that regardless of what is decided nothing will change soon, and our team over the next few years should make a big run for state. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen, but if it does, it will be against the best the state has to offer. Of that I am sure.

Spoken, or I should say, typed like a true competitor who believes the manner in which one competes is more important than the results. I like your way of thinking.

Let's be honest, the classes as they are are a little screwed up if you try to look at them from a numbers standpoint. No matter what you do, they will never be equal. It is impossible to make all school sizes even. It's also impossible to distribute talent, tradition, and coaching to all the schools. So people who want an "even playing field" will never be happy. Our system is what it is. It's not necessarily the most "fair", but it's probably the best we could hope for. Add to that two things, 1.)Life is not fair and 2.)Every year only four teams win state. So those who do are the elite minority for that season. Most of us are apart of the majority. I'm fine with that, and adding to more to other collumn won't really accomplish much.

Will the Public/Private School debate take precedence over the Class Re-alignment? If so, is it possible that the re-allignment won't take place?

This won't have any effect except for possible reqrouping of teams into different districts. A change in the "multiplier" wasn't discussed and must be approved by the board of control, etc. Anything else regarding the non-public vs public is years away from becoming a reality.

Here is an idea, something to think about. Lets Go to 5 classes. Why not put all your private schools and public 4A schools in Jefferson and Fayette counties in their own class. Use that as your basis for or 5A class. They are in comparable traveling distances from one another, within a 100 miles of each other. Their is open enrollment in both counties and your privates have the biggest areas to draw from. I realize this only solves the issues for football, but it would level the playing field on the public private debate. Of course if you are a private school that is 1, 2A, or 3A you and not in the louisville / lexington area, you would play up a class based upon a multiplier.

Could this work? I dont know, but its just an idea to discuss.
