Clinton County will be in Class A, but their presence could bump a couple of teams up in class.

I wouldnt mind bump somerset up to Class AA i would love it we would roll in that class it is probably the weakest class in KHSAA. Move us up we will be ready.

If you was in the West you might roll to the finals, but Russell and Belfry would both roll over you.

Somerset would not fare very well in 2A from what I have seen out of the Jumpers the last few years. They have been a step or two behind the better teams in the west, such as O-Cath, Ft. Campbell, Corbin, etc. and the west have not done very well against the east, so my guess is that they would not do any better in 2A than 1A.

If those teams move to 2A it would go from what some think is the weakest class, to pushing 4A for the strongest.

Belfry

Russell

Highlands

Danville

All those in the East.........

Actually, I don't think there is any way that both Danville and Highlands could be in 2A ... it's either one or the other. It all depends on how many new programs join Class A. If two or three of the new ones get into district play, other teams get bumped up to other classes.

I was speaking to some Danville fans two years ago when I went to watch OCath and Belfry for the state title game. I had heard rumors at the time that Danville was bordering 2A again but they all told me that the numbers were dropping due to Boyle. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

Also, reading this thread has brought back some good old memories. Football in 2A was some high quality football when we had the district with Corbin, Middlesboro, Rock, Somerset, Estill County, and Rockcastle. Talk about a district oozing tradition and championship caliber matchups each year.

Actually the other district out of that region was better at that time with Danville, Boyle Co, Lex Cath, Bourbon Co. Very tough region one of the toughest in the state at that time.

Sure...with Somerset's ONE year "domination" of 1A Region 4, winning the 2A Title would be nothing.

:sssh: ;) :sssh:

According to the KHSAA website, Danville's enrollment increased from 524 to 551 this year.

On paper nowadays yes, it was stacked. Toward the end before the reallignment they all were powers but if I am not mistaken, Boyle wasn't too powerful then and LexCath was till virtually a newcomer at the time. Weren't they similar to LCA in which they started poorly but because solid over time when they were in that district?

Will Highlands stay in 3A? I heard some rumbling that the "revered" KHSAA was going to force teams to play in their correct class and not play up in class. Does anyone know the exact enrollment at Highlands, and where the # puts them in classification?

Nobody has been allowed to play out of their class for several years now. It isn't a KHSAA decision to force Highlands to be treated any differently than anyone else. If their enrollment drops them into the AA ranks, then that is where they will play.

WHat are the cut-off lines between the classes?

Actually all through the 90's it was a tough district with Danville. Danville was most dominent team in the 90s in 2A. Anderson County was also in that district, and they had some good teams, and good qb Joe Smith during that time. Boyle County didn't have years like lately, but they were still tough. I remember Corbin matching up twice with Boyle in 92 Corbin beat them 10 to 7 on a last second field goal, and in 94 Corbin was beaten a couple of tds at Boyle. LexCath started out in 1A, and were a top ten team, by the time the left for 2A. Middlesboro was out of Corbin's district after the 95 season, and Madison Southern after the 96 season. I still believe that Middlesboro and Corbin need to be in the same district again one day. As 4CHS brought up a new district could be coming for Corbin, but if Danville moves up and Somerset is possible as well, they will stay where they are.

There's no actual "cut-off" based on enrollment as their used to be.

What they do now -- because it's the EASIEST thing for them to do -- is take the total number of teams playing football (as of last realignment, 216) and divide that number by the number of classes (4).

That gives a total of 54 in each class.

The breakdown ends up being ROUGHLY this (based on 2-year Enrollment Averages for both BOYS AND GIRLS -- so, correctly, any MALE-ONLY school has its enrollment DOUBLED to compare apples to apples):

A 170 (Pineville) to 530 (Bardstown)

* Range of BOYS in school: approx. 85 to 265

* Disparity from smallest to largest: 180 boys

AA 531 (Green Co.) to 752 (Magoffin Co.)

* Boys in school: approx. 265 to 376

* Disparity from smallest to largest: 111 boys

AAA 764 (Union Co.) to 1023 (Hopkinsville)

* Boys in school: approx. 382 to 512

* Disparity from smallest to largest: 130 boys

AAAA 1024 (Oldham Co.) to 3078 (St. X)

* Boys in school: approx. 512 to EXACTLY 1539

* DISPARITY FROM SMALLEST TO LARGEST: 1,027 BOYS!!! :scared:

...draw your own conclusions about why 4A is continually dominated by only 3 or 4 schools and NO school with under 800 boys EVER even makes it to the 4A state finals!

. . . great point. Makes the whole "if the public schools would just work harder" argument hard to swallow, maybe even obsurd. Facts are facts, and gives some pretty hard evidence that there is not a level playing field, IMO of course. ;)

From the numbers that I have seen, Middlesboro will likely drop to 1A, Somerset will definetly be 1A and Danville will be right on the border of 1A and 2A. This is assuming that there is not a public/private split and the classes remain divided equally among four classes.
