2007 alignment

It's a mechanical thing with cars. The front wheels on cars tend to get out of line and you have to take your car to a front end shop to have it aligned. This spring is when everyone gets their front ends aligned for 2007. :dancingpa

LoL not. :flame:

DeSales wouldn't be in A ... double their enrollment, because they're an all-boys school, and they would be at the upper edge of 2A.

Given the composition of A in the six-class format, I can see why Pikeville, Beechwood and Louisville Holy Cross would strongly be in favor of such a move.

I prefer the four-class setup as it stands, but if we must make a change to accommodate the small 4A schools, how about this?

Go to five classes. Make 5A the biggest 32 schools. Put 48 schools in each of the other four classes, which puts an average of six schools per district. That would allow schools to have some flexibility in scheduling ... as it is now, some teams are locked into seven or eight district games.

I believe equity is what most people are looking for in the proposal of six classes. I feel this is step in the right way as far as reform goes, but why not just set different classes at certain numbers and place the teams that fall in those numbers play in that class? Lets face it, it there is alot of things that can be done, but if we want equity in the size of the classes. I dont believe that any coach, would be against playing a team of like size in enrollment.

As far as this watering down a state championship, I dont believe this to be true. Teams will be playing schools of like size, therefore they will be the best in that class, if they win a state championship. They still have to win a championship, nobody is handing it to them.

The dominant teams our always going to be there at the top regardless of the class they are in. What is wrong with others maybe being able to share in the wealth.

Haven't had my coffee yet, so be patient with me this morning.

I'm wondering how the 4A schools from Louisville can meet for the state title? Someone explained this to me a while back, maybe OB or SM. But I don't understand how 2 schools from the same city can end up playing for a state title.

The 4A schools in Jefferson County are in two different regions. X plays opposite teams from Hardin, Nelson, Meade, and Bullitt Counties. The regional winner plays the Western Kentucky Regional winner to advance to the state finals. Trinity plays opposite from teams from Northern Kentucky, like Boone, Ryle, Dixie, Connor, etc. Their regional champion plays the Eastern Kentucky Region that does include the Lexington area.

When it's all said and done, I believe THIS time there will be a lot more thought put into doing what's "right" for the most involved (within each group) as opposed to just what's "easiest."

I saw his name come up earlier in this thread and it reminded me of reason to be optimistic...fortunately, Julian Tackett seems to be a pretty big part of directing where this could go.

Of all the people I've had to deal with, he seems to be someone very inclined to work to come up with the BEST solution for all involved and least inclined to worry about doing something "because that's the way it's always been done before." A lot of times people in an "authority" position are aloof and won't even give the time of day to those who stand the most to gain or lose from their decisions. I've never found that to be the case with him (nor any of the people at the KHSAA today...seem to be very open to hearing input/advice coaches, AD's, etc.).

Here's your proposed compromise. Better now or before?

Personally, I'm happy with four classes.

Like I said earlier, if we have to do something to accommodate the smaller 4A schools, I wouldn't be opposed to a 16-team 5A, with the other classes at 52 teams apiece, or maybe even a 24-team 5A with 50 teams in the other classes. The numbers can be manipulated in a lot of ways.

Again, though, the biggest "problem" is the numbers advantage enjoyed by Trinity and St. Xavier. I would think the best solution is one that adversely affects the lowest number of schools, but it also seems unfair to design a solution that targets only two powerhouse programs.

Here's my proposed compromise. 6A and 1A, which is the present top and bottom of 1A and 4A are what I hear the problem is. It has been said that the disparity in numbers is the reason for this whole problem to begin with. If thats so, then we need to look at the numbers and what the proposed changes would do. In my opinion. An evenly divided 6 classes does not do that. Here's my alternative.

As far as playoffs go, 1A and 6A could either a.) have a bye week so as all games would be played within the same weeked. (Which in my opinion could be very hard to do. Or b.) Hold the 1A and 6A championship games on Saturday of the 15th week. Most semi final games, if not all would be played on Friday nights, and a Saturday gate should still be pretty good. The other classes 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A would play the following weeked as usuall.

This solution would automatically do two things however. 1.) All 6A and 1A teams would make the playoffs. and 2.) There would be one less playoff game. I don't really like that idea, but if the numbers are the problem, then this would seem to me a better solution.

1A (271.5 to 103)

2A (566 to 278)

3A (745.5 to 578)

4A (1014 to 747.5)

5A (1599 to 1023)

6A (2187 to 1652)

Six classes is way too many. If the KHSAA wants to expand, why go from four to six and skip five?

I'm not an endorser of it either. Just trying to lay out some options like you.

I've been told it's because of the disparity in the size of the bottom of 1A and the top of 4A. And if you look at it. You have to admit. The numbers are very dispariging. Have any of the 1A schools I listed been to a state final in the last 25 years? How about the lower part of 4A? No. Hence the reason why some feel that there is a problem. :D

I do think 6 is to many. five classes would better. Wouldnt be as watered down.

But wouldn't have this problem if the board would did what the schools voted for.
