Clyde you are probably right about the money, but if you are coaching High School basketball for the money your doing it for the wrong reason, there are many other things a person can do with that time and make a lot more money.

I'm not talking about "coaching for money." I'm talking about "teaching for money and retirement."

I think coaching and money can go hand and hand. Coaching at the HS level isn't going to get you a lot of money almost anywhere you go, you are coaching at the HS level because you love the game, and enjoy working with and helping kids. However, if being away from your family that much is going to happen while coaching anyway, why not make more money if you can???

You ever notice how these schools that get accused of having parents who are always bashing the coaches (ie WV, Highlands, Beechwood) are also the schools that are ranked the highest academically as well. Perhaps the parents there are just unwilling to settle for mediocrity whether it is in the classroom or on the playing fields. Maybe they just have pride in their schools and have high expectations for themselves, their kids, their coaches, teachers, and schools. I'm not sure it is a bad thing to strive to be the best in everything you do. Maybe if parents at other schools cared more it would be reflected in their test scores as well as their teams performance.

Are you serious!!!!! You are putting Walton in the same category as Highlands and Beechwood. OMG you can not be serious. Walton and their fans would love to be in the same breath as those two schools. Never will be. This has to be the funniest things ever written on BGP. You were kidding right? The only time Walton gets anything written here is not on any accomplishments but at the end of every sporting season the parents and fans complain about their coaches or referees etc. Oh wait, they did donate a mat to the state wrestling matches.

By the way, Where is Walton Verona?

With all due respect, I think this is a load of :poop: Test scores and success on the field/court have nothing in common IMO.

How are you going to hate on a school district's test scores and not even know where it is? ... Because that is what Legion was referring to I believe. Walton Verona does perform very well in terms of state test scores.

I don't think Legion was referring to a correlation of academic success and on-court success. I feel like it was just a comment on parents complaining about coaches. Areas with high performing academics equals a lot more of parental complaints athletically because of demanded excellence. Legion if I am wrong, please clarify further.

Then take those comments to a different thread. Highlands and Beechwood excel on the field and in the classroom, therefore they get plenty of press and interest from everyone. I will take your word for it that Walton has good test scores. Start a thread about test scores then. I am sure that will attract a new coach. NOT

Jumpman, it's nice to see that some people on here are able to read AND comprehend what they are reading. Obviously others preconceived ideas inhibit their understanding. Sorry Wa Wa, I'm sure you dont understand that either, but maybe if you re-read it aloud a few times, sounding out the words, it will click.

You missed the point of what Legion was saying.

Walton is south of Florence.

Sounds the same. Nothing to do with the thread.

Interesting, the GPS can't find it.

My bet is operator error.

Walton Verona is a merged school. There's no such town as Walton Verona. Look up EITHER Walton OR Verona on your GPS.
